Super User Muddy Posted August 29, 2008 Super User Posted August 29, 2008 BPS extremes 80 bucks but go on sale a lot for 60, Quote
kickbasskid Posted August 30, 2008 Author Posted August 30, 2008 I think I might go with the rick clunn. Quote
Super User firefightn15 Posted August 30, 2008 Super User Posted August 30, 2008 Can't speak to the rick clunn, but muddy's extreme seems to be a tried and true reel. Maybe want to take a closer look at it. Check the reel out on ebay also. jmo http://cgi.ebay.com/bass-pro-shops-etx05ha-baitcasting-fishing-reel-6-3-1_W0QQitemZ170249988307QQihZ007QQcategoryZ108153QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1638Q2em118Q2el1247 Quote
MaxumBass Posted August 30, 2008 Posted August 30, 2008 I returned a Rick Clunn and bought a Citica, couldn't be happier! I could get no distance from the R/C and pretty much tried everything. Maybe there was something wrong with it, as it gets great reviews, but the one I had SUCKED! The guy at the counter at BPS talked me out of exchanging and getting the Citica, haven't looked back! Super User Muddy Posted August 30, 2008 Super User Posted August 30, 2008 Anything Shimano. How much did Road Warrior pay you for that post? Quote
21farms Posted August 30, 2008 Posted August 30, 2008 actually, the BPS/pflueger reels with 'intertia transfer braking' (ITB) are good reels...smooth and great castability. there is one design flaw, however, and that is if you turn the magnetic cast control dial past the '0' or the '10', you can possibly unhitch the magnetic assembly inside, causing the magnets to rub against the side of the spool and reducing your casting distance immediately. it's relatively easy to fix but you need a philips screwdriver and a couple of minutes but a pain nonetheless...just remember not to turn the dial past the extremes of the marked range. maxumbass, i'm sure that's what happened to you. for the price, i'd recommend looking at the daiwa exceler for $70 or the abu garcia pro max for $80. kickbasskid Posted August 30, 2008 Author Posted August 30, 2008 Oooh I really liked the exceler that may be my choice. Quote

Ive been using Pflueger and BPS for a long time I never once did this. There are a lot of things you as a user can break, it is not the reels fault. Quote

Super User Muddy Posted August 30, 2008 Super User Posted August 30, 2008 Good Choice! I have no experience with that reel, but you are the one who has to be satisfied. If you are going to Cabelas to buy it, why don't you bring the rod it is going on to see how it feels. Enjoy the reel 8-) Quote
