Certified Public Angler Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 How much weight should I give this review? http://reviews.cabelas.com/8815/123661/reviews.htm I find it hard to believe when I can cast a 1990's shimano BC farther and I've only taught myself in the last 2 weeks. Also is there any site you all know of that gives good reviews of rods & reels? Quote
21farms Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 as far as i know, the citica E's aren't even shipping until october 3rd. sorry, but i find this very hard to believe. in fact, the cynic in me says that he's on the waiting list and is trying to sweeten his position in the queue by getting people to jump ship before the reel is even available. T-Bone Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 I would ignore the review entirely. If the reel was really that bad then I don't think that shimano would even put on the market. Shimanos are some of the best reels on the market (best IMO) and I can't see shimano releasing a piece of crap reel. If you are planning on buying one and this review worries you, just wait till you see more reviews before you buy. It is obvious that this review is questionable. Besides, he probably had the reel set wrong anyway. : T-Bone Quote
Super User burleytog Posted August 29, 2008 Super User Posted August 29, 2008 Considering that the Citica 200E is a month away from shipping, I'd call it a big load of cow manure. Quote
J_Zink Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 After seeing this review I immediately cancelled my order of 3 E model Shimano's and switched to 3 Brand X's. I know I won't regret it. Quote
Certified Public Angler Posted August 29, 2008 Author Posted August 29, 2008 haha, ok that's what I thought. Anybody have a reliable review site? Quote
Super User senile1 Posted August 29, 2008 Super User Posted August 29, 2008 Tackletour.com is reliable. They tend to rate everything from 6 - 10 on a scale of 0 - 10 so the best range is usually the upper 8s to the lower 9s. Quote
Super User Micro Posted August 29, 2008 Super User Posted August 29, 2008 I think that same person posted a review on the Curado E (before that reel was available) stating the Curado was all plastic. That review was deleted. I'd ignore the Citica review. In fact, I ignore all reviews on BPS and Cabelas and rely on my own examination and input on this site and TackleTour. You ought to know that even though we all have our favorites, reels from the big companies like Shimano, Daiwa, AG, Pflueger, are at least going to perform competently, if not stellarly. Quote
Chad. Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 Haha, that's great seeing as they ship in october... only shimano inside guys would possibly have them. Load of you know what. Quote
The_Natural Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 I bet it's the same guy that did the phony Curado review on Cabelas website. He said he had a 'Promotional model' Curado a month before they were available. 'Bantam 1' over on TT works for Shimano, and he said even he couldn't get one until they were available to retailers. He claimed there are no promotional models in exsistance, and he would know. I'm not sure why you would be so anti-shimano that you would leave phony reviews, just make sure the reel is available before you make yourself look like a chodeholio. Quote
Super User Micro Posted August 29, 2008 Super User Posted August 29, 2008 I agree. There's a review of the Skeet Reese Revo on BPS website that is based on a reel purcased off ebay at a deeply discounted price (right after it was introduced). The user says he kept the reel because of AG's great customer service. In fact, he did not keep the reel but replaced it with another. Curiously, we haven't seen an updated review or photos of the new reel. Lots of reviews out there that smack of bias by people who appear unwilling to be fair. Quote
