MeppsMan Posted August 25, 2008 Posted August 25, 2008 OK... So I'm out on the pond with my new Walmart baitcaster. Anti Reverse still working. I upgraded the system to be in tune with specs and lure being used. I experimented with a plastic cray fish rigged Texas style. I had some really good bites but havent caught anything...yet. The casting is coming along and with a little work I might me able to throw something out twenty...five feet. Its actually going pretty good and with a few more times out I might hook something. I had this big bass and he must have swallowed the Texas creature cause he was on my line for like 6 seconds. I was reeling him in thinking he was hooked (without any hook set) and boom then he was gone. I think I need to revisit my rigging of the worm and timing of hooksets. But hey...my antireverse made it through another day. JB Quote
Certified Public Angler Posted August 25, 2008 Posted August 25, 2008 I like to make sure the hook is rigged so the point is sticking out the other side of the plastic and then barely tucked into the side, if that makes sense. You may want to set the hook harder if you have a light rod or try using braided line. Then again, sometimes it's just bad luck. Quote

dman Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 Learn from your mistakes. Exactly, you just learned more about fishing by missing that fish than if you would have caught him, so um - congratulations ;D Quote
