hoosierfisherman Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 Well, I'm into backpacking. This fall we're doing another segment of the Appallachian Trail. Anyways, we'll be going along some streams / rivers and I'd really like to take a small fishing rod and do some fishing. It would be awesome to have a fresh fish out on the trail. The main thing is that it needs to be light - weight and be able to fit into a backpack. Are there any rods out there that break down into small segments that can be bound together? Anybody tried this before? I thought I could get a small rod, a small reel, and some lures and be set for some fun. Thoughts? What would you take? Quote
Super User Raul Posted August 14, 2008 Super User Posted August 14, 2008 There are very few good quality multipiece rods that come into my mind, Browning manufactures some ( BPS ), however if I wouldn 't consider purchasing one of those, if I were into it like you I would certainly look for a rod with more substance. Major Craft 's Sa-Ku-Ra You can order it from Plat Excellent service ! I recommend it very very highly to you. Quote
Ultraman Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 take a look at st croix's travel spinning rods they're 4 piece rods ranging from 5'6 to 6'6 in length and are fairly cheap cheers Quote
wisturkeyhunter Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 A 2 piece strapped on the back of your pack in a case will work just fine seen a ton of guys doing it before. Quote
hoosierfisherman Posted August 22, 2008 Author Posted August 22, 2008 I finally made a decision. Thanks, guys for your advice. I think they were a little more than I wanted to spend initially. I found this: http://www.troutlet.com/Eagle-Claw-Trailmaster-Pack-Rods-P124.aspx The beauty of it is that it is a breakdown fly and spinner! Reviews looked decent and it was a good price. Now, I can do either in the future! They also had one that was a caster too, but I doubt I'll be doing any of that while backpacking or hiking. Quote
