Super User roadwarrior Posted August 15, 2008 Super User Posted August 15, 2008 I bought a Shimano Core 100MG off the Flea Market last night. Although I am pretty focused on the rod I plan to match up with this reel, I would like to hear what others have to say or suggest. This will be used as an alternative to a MBR844C for big soft plastics and jigs exclusively. Thank you. Quote
Chad. Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 Does it have to be g loomis i only have experience with a 7' h fast action legend elite in that price range and it sure is sweet plus they should go on sale. Quote
ks cranker Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 Stick with a Gloomis GLX or Go with a Cumara and save some $$$ Quote
fishbear Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 RW, Take a look at both the Kistler lineup and the Powell Line up. I have fished both, and love them. The Powell rods can not be beat for the price with weight and sensitivity on par with much more expensive rods. Also you might want to call Outlaw rods and talk to the owner there. He is a great guy and will help you out. His rods are all like 129.00 with a great warranty. Plus they are American made blanks, and built up here in the states as well. Quote
mike bat Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 i think that core would be sweet on one of those new legened extremes ..... that 7ft med-hev fast ,,, it weighs in just over 4oz ... i bet that core would ballance it out nice .... perfect rod for jigs and plastics ;D Quote
HopelesslyAddicted Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 I have recently been GLX shopping. IMO you picked the right rod in the first place lol. But if you want comparable alternatives listen to fishbear. Kistler Powell and maybe even Dobyns are worth a look. Quote

Dude, LE 's wood grain like reel seat and pearl brownish finish don 't match the pearlescent black and red accents of the Core , it don 't look good ! If the reel were red ( like a Fuego ) or mattè pastel red ( like a 2005 Pixy ) or frosted gold ( 2003 Pixy ) or shiny gold ( Sol ) then it would look good. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted August 15, 2008 Author Super User Posted August 15, 2008 Yeah, it's gotta be "Darth Vader". 8-) Quote
Chad. Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 Man i got a lot to learn about reel etiquette. No experience with this but a complie-x i know daiwa shimano un holy, but would look fabulous or maybe a Japanese rod like a megabass super destroyer. Quote
