catchnm Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 These have been out a while now. What's the consensus on them? I'm thinking on purchasing a couple to try out. I'm pretty impressed with the fact that there's a burner 7.1:1 in the group. I've heard that they're very nice reels for the $70 price range. Quote
Super User Raul Posted August 18, 2008 Super User Posted August 18, 2008 I 've played around with one a couple of regular models a couple of times and let me say that I 'm impressed so far, it reminds me of the Procaster 6+1, casts very nice, very smooth, feels tight and well built, looks really cool ( very futuristic ), it 's quite heavy but I don 't think you can get such a nice baitcaster for 70 bones. TournyFish001 Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 I am not sure if it has the same drag set up as the megaforce- if it does that drag system is pretty crapy- that drag is very inconsistant- you tighten it up good but as soon as enough force is made for it to give line it is like having no drag at all- catching fish over 2Lbs is a challenge with the all or nothing drag system- I bought 3 to have extra "burner" reels not one of them are on a rod now- A good drag is a must and a challenge when going low end. Jrock Posted August 19, 2008 Posted August 19, 2008 I recently purchased one , it performed great untill my last fishing trip, the thumb bar would not release unless you pushed it back up manually, i have just used it a minimum of 2 months, you could shake it and hear several things moving around inside , needless to say i did return it and i bought a Revo , i was dissapointed, as i do like daiwa products,i thought this was a keeper, but i may have just got a bad one. as far as the drag it worked fine , but again i just had it a little over 2 months. BNKrust Posted August 19, 2008 Posted August 19, 2008 I haven' had any problems with mine (knock knock), drag or otherwise. I've pulled several Lake Fork fatties with it and no issues with the drag whatsoever. I like the reel myself and for $70, it's hard to beat. Much better than the Megaforce, though not near as good as the Revo. Quote
st00pid Posted August 19, 2008 Posted August 19, 2008 I did no research on baitcasters and was in cabella's and picked it out of the bunch for the price range i wanted. Its my first baitcaster and i am very pleased. As stated the drag kinda sucks but i havnt had any problems it is just inconsistant on settings. The spool tension knob is very sensitive, and the brakes work great. Mine is the 6:3:1. For a beater i like it. I will deff upgrade and have it for a back up Quote
Max-in-Mn Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 I have one and it is awesome! Got mine for $60 and I can't believe how nice it is for that price. I've only used it on a couple of trips so far, but I really beat the hell out of it and it took the abuse no sweat. There is many better reels out there, but not in that price range! Quote
fragged 3d Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 I have one of these and for the price it's pretty awesome! It was my first baitcaster and I have since purchased the td sol and the high speed steez, Daiwa products are awesome. Quote
catchnm Posted August 20, 2008 Author Posted August 20, 2008 I'm likin' what I'm hearing so far. Quote
st00pid Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 you'll like this even more haha i was flipping a blugill tonight haha held up fine had the tension knob tight as heck. no birdsnest with braid. I am really happy with mine. I just wish it let you know the setting. nothing clicks besides the brake. I like knowing that stuff so i can reproduce how i like the settings of drag and tension. Quote
