I love lite tackle bassing - say 4#-6# line and lite spinning gear.  Wondering if anyone else out there shares this passion, and what your favorite lite rod/reel combo is?

Thanks,

Marc ;)

nothing like catching a big bass on light tackle. some people like heavy rods with heavy test braid with the drag set to the max. i like when the fish takes line. the fun part for me is fighting the fish, not yanking it onto the boat as fast as possible.

favorite set up:

smallmouth : 6'3", 1/16oz-3/8oz lure weight, shimano 2500, 6lb line

largemouth: 6'6", 1/8oz-1/2oz lure wieght, shimano 2500, 6lb-8lb line

my favorite lures are small jigs and soft plastics

The brown fish in my avatar were caught using

spinning tackle and Yo-Zuri Hybrid #4. However,

I don't necessarily consider G. Loomis PR844S

saddled with a Stella 2500FB light tackle.

I sometimes fish with a St. Croix Avid AS66MLF/

Stella 1000FA which might work for big smallmouth,

but bass fishing involves catching a lot of other

species on the Tennessee River. This rod doesn't

handle 20+ lb catfish, drum, buffalo and striper

too well!

I have one light tackle outfit.  I refer to lightwieght as #6 mono and under.

Rod= G-Loomis 6'6 IMX SR782

Reel= Shimano Sahara 750FB

One spool with #6 and the other spool #4.

Rod: St Croix Avid Spinning 5'6 2pc (AVS56ULF2)

Reel: Shimano Sahara 750 Fb

Line: 4 and 2 lb test

Very fun for smallies

Throwing small crankbaits like ugly ducklings or small husky jerks and using live leeches works great

There is nothing like UL fishing.

My only rig is a 7'  Okuma Celilo UL rod mated to a Cardinal 101A with 6# mono.  I've caught 3.5# bass with it. One of my favorite sights to see in fishing is my UL rod going parabolic if you know what I mean, and protecting my light line. IMHO it is also a great sensation to feel.

Catching bass on light tackle is a blast.  I don't fish with light stuff nearly as much as I used to but a few years ago I would take my ultralight loaded with 2lb trilene to a local pond. Let me tell you catching 2.5lb bass on 2lb line is FUN!

I have a 6-6 ul  (4#) that i like to use early in the season, then switch to a 7'ml (6#) in june. 2500 size reel (don't like those ul spool dia.) No taking bass waterskiing with this setup.

I love lite tackle bassin' too!!  Growing up on a clear water lake made finesse fishing a way of life that I rely heavily on all these years later.  It is sooooo much fun and so effective at times, it should almost be illegal.  It is the proverbial "flip side" of this sport that far too many over look.

I have 4 finesse rigs.  3 are spinning and one baitcaster, all are 5'6" M/F except one spinning rig that is 6'3" M/XF.  I don't really favor one over another.

This was my first year fishing seriously with ultra lite and let me tell you, what a year!!

I got a Pflueger Trion GX-7 reel on a BPS 6' Microlite UL rod. The reel well exceeded my expectations, it has been flawless. The rod is not bad either. I'm working on my Xmas wish list now, which includes a St. Croix Avid 6' 6" UL rod and a Pflueger President reel. I gotta say I'm very impressed with Pflueger's quality. The St. Croix will be my first high end rod.
