brgbassmaster Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 just wondering if you suggest this or not. i know a guy who uses braided line on his spinning reels and i was wondering if you guys have ever used this for finesse fishing. i was planning on trying it for shakey heads and small baits thanks. Super User roadwarrior Posted August 12, 2008 Super User Posted August 12, 2008 Nope, not me. 8-) Quote
bmuskin Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 Yes I can feel so well I have switched everything I have to braid. Use different colors and size depending. Quote
Daniel My Brother Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 I don't...but I have a question for you guys who do; do you use a leader? Quote
Bass_junky Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 Only when using a Shakey Head set-up, but even then i use a flouro leader. Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted August 13, 2008 Super User Posted August 13, 2008 I don't...but I have a question for you guys who do; do you use a leader? Not in my waters. Quote
whittler Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 On my UL rod I wouldn't use anything else, 2/6 Suffix braid .005 thick. There is a learning curve when switching to braid but with the quality of some of the braided lines out there today I would hate to do without it. Have used the super braids with and without long time and I find no difference in fish catching, so I have not used a leader at all for a while, plus as with any line it is one less knot. Quote
fishbear Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 I have switched everything over to braid. However, when I fish "gin" clear water, I use a 15-20 foot flourocarbon leader, whether it is finesse fishing or not. The only reel I have mono on is my spinnerbait reel. Quote
siiilent Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 I use braid on my spinner, but when finesse fishing, I will add on a floro leader. Quote
Pantera61 Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 Braid is great for finesse. I go back and forth on the leader necessity. Currently, not using a leader. Quote
Fishing Doug Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 big fan of braid for finesse...and no leader. Quote
Chad. Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 WE need to perform a test on leaders no leaders, a lot of experienced angles i've talked to used no leader on high vis braid and have caught countless fish, then there are the 'others'. Quote
Volman482 Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 I use a fluro leader for finesse. Just connect it with uni knots and make sure you wet them good before cinching down. Dry fluro burns real easy and will break. Quote
TournyFish001 Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 simply amazing I started doing this a couple months ago and wow- 6lb spiderwire steatlh tied to an 8ft flouro leader on my glx drop shot rod I can feel everything. Quote
Flywatersmallie Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 I use braid on every rod I own (except fly rods of course ;D ) and my crankbait rig. I think some stretch there is a good thing. Quote
anglermangler Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 just put a braid on one of my baitcasters, used it for a little bit of everything (well everything but top water) from jigs to worms to crank baits (lipped and lip less). I absolutley love it, you can really feel EVERY piece of anything you touch. I replaced my fluorocarbon with the braid on my spool and will not be buying fluoro anytime soon. The hook set and sensitivity on the braid is unbeatable in my opinion. AnglerMangler Quote
Super User Jeff H Posted August 17, 2008 Super User Posted August 17, 2008 I usually do not use braid for finesse, but I also know there are times when it can be beneficial and will use it. When I do, I prefer razor thin Fireline and no leader. and yes, I know Fireline is a fused "superline" and not a braid per se. Cuts through weeds best of all I've tried though. Quote
