Lucky Craft Man Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 Message to G Loomis: To Whom It May Concern, Please do not alter your design (especially changing to Split Grips). Your products have outperformed the competition for a long time (and continue to do so). Please don't stoop to the level of other manufacturers who feel they need to alter the way their rods look in order to sell products (which I guess is a way to make up for their lacking in performance). I own 20+ rods manufactured by your company and I could not be more pleased (though, I think you missed the boat a little when designing the Frog Rod). Thanks again for producing such fine products and for increasing my enjoyment while on the water. PS I hope you continue to have the Xpeditor Warranty Service long into the future, which is another reason I purchase your rods. Quote

Bass Pro Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 Just some food for thought... It's a little known fact that back in the '90's, Loomis went to a sprial wrapped guide design. But sales took a sharp drop as most customers didn't know what the heck it was. So, they went back to conventional designs. Quote
dantatro49 Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 I doubt it because they offer their blanks for custom built rods. However, I think we might see something different down the road. But I don't think it will be on the GLX lineup. They will probably do a split grip or something on the mossyback, crankbait or spinnerbait rods. Personally, I think they should do one of two things.. Either A, offer all their blanks to the custom rod builder. Or B, allow the buyer to select the type of grip, guides, etc of the rod. They do offer there blanks to the custom rod builders. The whole split grip design isn't about looking cool it is for better senceitvity. If your rod feels to tip heavy you just need to balance your rod by putting some weight in the back of the blank. They only offer SOME of their blanks to custom rod builders. You can't get the BCR GLX blanks and a host of others. Like I said, I think they should offer all their blanks or either offer the customer his/her choice of grips and components on the rod. Quote

TournyFish001 Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 I think they are amazing just the way they are- on their spinning rods the front cork foregrip is comfy when touching the rod blank with my index finger. Quote
bronzeback01 Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 i have 3 loomis rods 1 daiwa steez and a st croix legend tournament and you can keep those fancy split grip rods , sure they look fancy but i'll take my full cork loomis over any of my other rods . Quote
Chad. Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 I think loomis will stay the way they are until the have real competiton new st.croix???? Quote

The are not saving that much maybe few dollars depends on the quality of the cork. The st. croix legend is any where from 220 to 270 so you think they made it a spit grip to save money on cork you are nuts. A company like st. croix or lommis get the cork for pennies. Think what you want. Quote

ArcticCat500 Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 ok so I jumped on the Loomis bandwagon this year, after never thinking I'd spend more then $200 a single off the shelf rod Im totally pleased with my purchases, and I hope to god they dont lower the quality to make them look pretty....and yes I've owned and still own custom rods......but I love my Loomy's Quote

It is getting hard to find. The best of cork these days is going into wine bottles and flooring. Big rod companies aren't trying to save on cork cost or supplies, but on the overall weight and balance of the rod. I don't use cork, I use a burl that is man made and produced here in the US. It is more dense than cork and helps me with the ability to balance the rods I make a lot easier. Just my .02¢ from my rod bench.. Tight Lines!!!! Quote

The_Natural Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 Man...some serious quoting goin' on! I just remembered a few people on Tackle Tour stated there was someone that was building split grip glx's with black foam, aluminum winding checks, and the works. They supposedly had the JDM appeal. I'd love to see a pic of one of these rods. We internet conassuires love a search challenge...who can produce a pic and win the prize? (maybe I'll send you a couple of jigs or something just for the hell of it) Quote
