mi_basser Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 What a piece of junk!!!! I bought this reel and used it about 8 to 10 times and it is about shot. It will not cast half as far as my other baitcasters(one of which happens to be a cheap BPS Bionic blade I think it is called-a 40 to 50 dollar reel) About every second or third cast the handle will not engage, engages about half and makes a hellacious clunking or grinding sound, or engages about 90 percent, and makes a light clicking sound as you reel only to finish seating itself about half-way through the retrieve. Have any of you out there had similar problems with the reel or is it just my great luck. I thought I would see if anyone had any suggestions(other than returning the reel to where I bought it) before I did return it. Quote
Stasher1 Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 I'd either return it or have it professionally serviced (cleaned and lubed). Quote
detroit1 Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 I have had mine since july 07 , and as my main bc, i have had no problems so far... Quote
Super User grimlin Posted August 15, 2008 Super User Posted August 15, 2008 I have the Accurist performance tuned one and i love mine.I had to get rid of that factory grease that was in it and now it's my crankbait reel. I have no problems tossing a 1/4 oz crank or jerkbait on the reel.I hated it when i first got it,but it grew on me.Guess i just had some doubts on it at first. Quote
strick9 Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 I've had mine for three years with no problems at all!!!! Quote
G3 Fan Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 If you are comfortable taking things apart (this is pretty easy, no major surgerory) Take the handle and drag star off. The one way bearing sleeve should slide out if you tip the reel on its side and tap it on your palm. It should be a one piece sleeve with prongs on the end which engage to provide the anti-reverse. I wouldn't be too surprised if it comes out in a few pieces. I have had a bunch of Accurists and I have had that break on two different reels. I don't recall if it kept the reel from engaging but it did create some slop and grind. Quote
Super User .RM. Posted August 16, 2008 Super User Posted August 16, 2008 mi_basser, Depending on how long you have had the reel, it sounds to me like the factory grease and oil is getting old and gummy. Again if the reel is a season old it is probably time to have it serviced. If you have never taken a reel apart don't start with an Accurist.... G3 Fan, The one way bearing sleeve should slide out if you tip the reel on its side and tap it on your palm. I have had a bunch of Accurists and I have had that break on two different reels.I have seen that happen on Shimano Chronarch's that had the drags cinched down and the reel was getting to much reverse torque, and the drags wouldn't release... Mostly on Accurist' I have seen were the oneway bearing was actually turning in the receiver for the bearing pack, again because the drags weren't allowed to do the job right and the star was cinched down hard.. Good luck with the reel... Tight Lines!!!! Quote
