anglermangler Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 What's up everyone? i was in at gander mountain today to get some new line for fishing my jigs in heavy cover and obviously in and around structure. I picked up P-Line CXX Mossy Green in 20 lb test. I was wondering what you all thought of this choice as I am still undecided after today when I fished off the bank (i can't stand fishing from shore) and not getting a bite so i could really test how it felt with a fish but casting feels kinda strange with 20lb line, kinda makes it feel like i'm casting with a guitar string lol. The_Natural Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 20lb CXX is quite extreme; I regularly use 15lb on my heavier rods and have a very hard time breaking it. I use the 15lb for large shallow crankbaits as well, and I always straighten out a barb on one of the trebles when I hang up versus losing my bait. I'm not sure if there is a fish in the lake that would break that 20lb CXX; it breaks at over 30lbs. And yes...anything over 15lb test in CXX is like guitar string . It's the nature of the beast. Try the 15lb...much more manageable. Quote
anglermangler Posted August 13, 2008 Author Posted August 13, 2008 awesome, thanks for the info AnglerMangler Quote
skillet Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 I used some 12lb for a while and it was STRONG. It would have benefitted with a little KVD line conditioner... As Ever, skillet Quote

mattm Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 P-Line CXX is awesome stuff in my opinion. The only downside is it does have a fair amount of memory, but this can be virtually eliminated with KVD line and lure conditioner. Even before discovering KVD I only used P-Line b/c of its unmatched abrasion resistance. I only use 15lb as well and have a tough time breaking off many of my hang ups. I don't know that I would throw the 20lb out, but I would probably buy 15lbs next time if I was you. Quote
Super User Raul Posted August 13, 2008 Super User Posted August 13, 2008 I 've fished with PLine CXX, 15 pounds is more than I need for flipping into them mesquite trees, for regular fishing I think 15 lbs is waaaaayyyy too much line after me uprooting a stump with 12 lbs, the line ...... didn 't even blink when I pulled it. :-?
