I've had my Shimano Crucial 7 foot rod for less than 2 weeks and the thing broke on me 2 nights ago.  I was pulling a 3.5 pounder into the boat when the fish jumped, came down and broke the rod!  This shouldn't happen with a rod in this price range.  I'm pretty disappointed about it.  Has anyone ever broke their Shimano rod and got a replacement?  Do I need to call Shimano to do this?

call them up and you will have a free replacement no matter what they are my favorite rods just because of their great customer service and guarentee :(

telling them you broke the rod on a fish only will further ensure you get a replacement(even though you were already getting it) ;D

I had an old Jimmy Houston rod that broke on me. Gave them a call they said cut it in like 3 or 4 pieces and send it to them. Pretty soon I was the owner of a new Clarus. Awesome on their part.

If you bought it at a retail store rather than from Shimano, I was under the impression you just take it back to where you got it :(...

I had a Compre that was broken while I had it in my car and was subsequently in an accident.  Took it to BPS and they exchanged it on the spot for a new one.  That was in the fall of 2005.

Definitely a bummer but things happen. Actually, any rod can break with as little as 2 lbs of force in the wrong place so don't be too shocked.  Now take advantage of the warranty.  :(

Heres what you do, take it to the store you bought it and walk out with a new shiny one  8-).

Just got a new replacement rod from Shimano today.  That was a pretty quick turnaround from the time I sent the broken rod.  I call that great customer service!

Just for future reference, you don't even have to take it to the same store.  I broke mine with a door, took it to a different store than I bought it from.  Didn't have my receipt, just gave then 15 or 20 bucks and got a brand new one.  I even told them how I did it and they didn't care.  Shimano's policy is pretty sweet.

Are you really serious? In fact generally the more graphite in the rod is the more brittle it will be.
