maxke01 Posted February 17, 2008 Posted February 17, 2008 In your honest opinions what is the best bang for the buck when it comes to spinning reels ****EDIT***** Price range is around $100 if that matters, but it isnt the question Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted February 18, 2008 Super User Posted February 18, 2008 "Best" is highly subjective as there are alot of great reels out there. Here are my "favorites" Pflueger Supreme $99 Daiwa Exceler $69 Pflueger President $59 Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted February 18, 2008 Super User Posted February 18, 2008 Shimano Sarhara (59.99) is a pretty decent reel for the money. Quote

maxke01 Posted February 18, 2008 Author Posted February 18, 2008 Thats why i asked for OPINIONS instead of just asking what the best is : : : : : : : I know everyone here uses different equipment for the most part Quote
sal669 Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 JMHO A discontinued Stardic ($99). Dick's Sporting Goods in my neck of the woods still had a couple last week. Next would be the Symetre... Quote
Pond Hopper Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 Best I have laid my hands on is the Symetre, and it is a fine reel even for a guy who hates spinning tackle. Quote
xxmurrxx Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 Daiwa Tierra can probably get one for under 100 on ebay Quote
Popeye Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 I've been using my new Pflueger Supreme and President the last two outings and couldn't be happier. Both cast great and are buttery smooth on the retrieve! IMO:o) Quote
bass wrangler569 Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 I love my pflueger presidents. They are fantastic reels for how much they cost. The supremes are even better. Quote
ba7ss3in Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 I like the Quantum Energy Pt's, have not tried the new Tour edition yet. Quote
mackkie Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 I have a Sahara, nice reel for $60, just bought the supreme from Pflueger, but haven't used it yet. Seems like an awesome reel, smooth, super light, and a magnesium reel for under $500! Quote
fishingnut Posted August 9, 2008 Posted August 9, 2008 I fish a variety of reels on different rods. My favorite combo (recently purchased) is a shimano cumara/sustain FE, and I would switch all of my reels to those but it's just a bit out of my price range. The one I have was a graduation present. I have daiwa capricorns, shimano stradics, pflueger supreme's and presidents, quantum tour and others. In my opinion the Pflueger supreme is an excellent buy for 99 dollars, and the bass pro shops jonny morris signature spinning reel for 99 is also a great reel. Shimano makes the best high end reels and if at all possible I would recommend saving up and buying one of the new stradics or stretching it for the sustain FE, you won't regret it. Quote
ArcticCat500 Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 I picked up a Pflueger Supreme,(from here) and I love it, and I've fished Shimano,Daiwa and Garcia's but I havta say my favorite is the Pflueger Supreme. Quote
LAO162 Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 I prefer my Exceler to my Stradic FH. It's not as smooth, but consistently outcasts and its line management is as good, if not better. If I were to buy another Exceler TODAY, I would probably look at the Cabelas Prodigy which is still on sale for $79. Quote
Ballpark Frank Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 I gotta say Shimano Symetre also. I now have three of them, and they are the best spinning reels I have ever owned. Quote
The Rooster Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 No one mentioned you can get the Pflueger Medalist right now from Cabela's for $60, same price as the President. Aluminum body, 10 bearings, should be very smooth. I have the President that I bought this past spring and it's very nice, but for the same money I'd have gotten the Medalist back then if it was that low but at the time it was $80 for one reel and I was buying two that day. Anyway, Pflueger, Pflueger, Pflueger, Pflueger..........Pflueger.....and Pflueger some more. Nuff said. Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 The Tierra is a great value. GREAT value. saltwater capable too. Quote
avid Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 If the question is "what is the best" I think you have to look way up higher on the price scale. Fish a Steez, which I own, or a stella like RW, and there is simply no way an educated hand will not feel the smoothness. No loose fittings, no extra play, no vibration etc. These are subtle characteristics that separate the "best" If the quesiton is "best bang for the buck" I still have not found a better value than the shimano symetre. Outstanding reel for the $$ Quote
bass wrangler569 Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 Pflueger president and Pflueger supremes can't be beaten in the value department IMO. Quote
zacksdad Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 I fish with the best Shimano that I can afford Quote
