Super User roadwarrior Posted July 29, 2008 Super User Posted July 29, 2008 The Shimano Citica is a great reel or if you are patient, you might find a Curado on sale or in our Flea Market for around $150. 8-) Quote
Super User Sam Posted July 29, 2008 Super User Posted July 29, 2008 Anything Shimano. The Curado line is excellent. Maybe a 200 would suite your needs. Check 'em out. Happy Birthday. P.S. An nice All Star rod would add to the gift. ;D Quote
Masshole Mike Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 That's an easy one..... Abu Revo SX. x2, i love my revo sx (lefty, of course!) Quote

Super User MALTESE FALCON Posted July 29, 2008 Super User Posted July 29, 2008 REVO REVO REVO!!! Falcon Quote
Big Tom Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 The Revo SXs are really nice reels and they are comfortably within your price range. Good recommendations. Quote
Chad. Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 Daiwa 153HSTA Super-tuned! x2 million fish that and a buddys revo sx on the weekend i liked the hsta better longer casting difference and smother cranking felt more solid both nice reels for the money Quote
basspimple Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 pflueger summit. awsome reel. i would say a diawa millionaire, but they have been replace by the luna(i would recammend this also, but its out of your price range, lol.) Quote
Aaron Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 I would get a Curado if you can find one in your price range. The current D models are being marked down and the new E's will be out soon and won't be much above your price Quote
smcentee Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 Daiwa 153HSTA Super-tuned! Great reel!! Several eBay stores price them at $120-$125, which makes it an even greater reel. Quote
BirdNestBen Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 no doubt check on ebay... you should be able to get a REVO STX for around $150 new..... My second choice is most definitely the Shimano MG 50............. you also couldn't go wrong with Team daiwa Quote
adclem Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 What about the BPS brand bait casters? Later, Quote
The Rooster Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 I like them really well. Have a BPS Extreme, but it's not nearly $150. You can sometimes get them for $60 on sale, but regularly they are $80. And in my opinion, it's a very underpriced reel for what you get. Should be more like $100 to $120 I would think. Step up to the Rick Clunn signature reel, or a Johnny Morris if you want, but really I can't see the reason to do so when the Extreme is so nice and very smooth. You can get 2 of them for $150 if you catch them on sale. With my Extreme, I was able to cast 1/4 oz. crankbaits straight into pretty strong winds early this spring. No backlashes either with the inertia brakes they have. Of course I had the brakes set on 9 out of 10 but with wind that strong there was no other way. I was still making 40 foot casts with it even in that wind. I have it set now to where I almost don't even need to thumb it while casting crankbaits of that size. They really are excellent reels for the money spent. A lot of bang for the buck. Quote
mattm Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 Listen to the guys saying SX. I bought 3 new Curados at the start of this season b/c I found them for 150.00 and they were offering a 50.00 rebate. Bummer thing was that I was looking for Revo's but thought this deal to good to pass up. I just recently picked up two used SX's in the BR flea market forum. These reels are so heads and shoulders above the Curado's its embarassing. The Curado's aren't neccesarily bad, but they ain' t a Revo SX. I own a Revo S as well and the SX is more than worth the additional money to upgrade. At the same time even though the STX is probably a little better than the SX I don't know that its worth the extra money. Unless you just have it to donate to the baitmonkey of course. Also I should say that I've fished with a friends STX some, but do not own one. Quote
mattm Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 Oh yeah, if you go Shimano I would get the Citica. I had one that I gave a friend when I bought the Curado's and I can tell very little difference if any between the two reels. The cost is a good 80-100 bucks more for the Curado. Quote
Super User Muddy Posted August 8, 2008 Super User Posted August 8, 2008 It's been a while since they were on sale so the BPS Extreme's will go on sale soon for 60 bucks, Get 2 one in 6.3:1 and one in 5.3:1 and still have 30 bucks left over. 8-) Quote
IMPY03 Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 I love my Shimano Citica and my Abu Garcia 5600 c3 both are great reels for the money! Quote
The Rooster Posted August 9, 2008 Posted August 9, 2008 It's been a while since they were on sale so the BPS Extreme's will go on sale soon for 60 bucks, Get 2 one in 6.3:1 and one in 5.3:1 and still have 30 bucks left over. 8-) To be quite honest it's only been about 6 weeks maybe since they were on sale for $60 on the website. I was watching them and was about to make a purchase of 2 of them but they went back up before I could act ( >) so now I have to wait on them. But I agree, 2 BPS Extremes would be sweet. Don't know how they compare to the Revo S or SX but I'm absolutely in love with my Extreme and just can't give a thought to spending more for a different reel when these are available every so often for 1/2 the price.
