That depends on the size and configuration of the spinner.  If you mean 1/16 oz in line then you better get an ultralite.  If you mean a 1 oz tandem then a heavy rod.

I use a fast 7-foot rod with a large spool spinning reel loaded with 15 or 20lb braid. Braid takes some getting used to, but will outcast other lines, by quite a bit.

Welcome!  40 feet ? That is more of a long pitch than a long cast. For someone new to casting a 6'6"  medium heavy spinning rod with good 10# test should easily get you 40 feet, maybe not super accurate to begin with but at least that far.

I need some equipment setup ideas so that i can send a size 8 Joe's fly spinner with a couple of split shot weights at least 30-40 ft from the shore.  My reel/rod combination currently will only send it a mere 15 feet.  I need more distance to get to the middle of the river.  More weights added onto the line result in the spinner catching the bottom of the river.  Will a proper line/reel/rod setup work better? Any ideas?  My current setup: 6'6" berkeley cherrywood rod (the eyes are small in diameter) - shimano tx2000 fa spinning reel - 10lb test line - joe's flies - split shot weights

First off welcome, and my friend, if you can only cast a mere 15' with your setup, you need a new setup. Most people can or almost can flip or pitch 40'. How much are you wanting to spend. The line does make a ton of difference as well. I love Berkley line. Go for just the simple Berkley Trilene XL Smooth Cast. My little brother is a bass fishing fool for only being 12 and he loves using an Abu Garcia spinning reel, a medium or medium/heavy Ugly Stick rod (don't laugh) for a combo and he can cast clear across the large farm ponds we own.

That's a cheap solution, and will hold up to fish, and will get the job done. I hope this helps.

If you do get a new combo take care of it protect the reel don't lay it on the ground, you get nicks on the spool.  clean your guides.  Reel Magic works wonders on both your line and guides.

An inline spinner or a spinner bait? If it is at least 3/16 oz either a casting or spinning reel should be able to hit 40'.

Check the weight of your lure, it should fall within the rating of your rod so that the road is loading properly on the cast.  The Joe's I found on line was 1/4 oz.  If that is typically the weight of your lures, you will probably want a Medum power spinning rod.  Typically Medium power spinning are rated for lures from 1/8 to 1/2 oz.  If your rod is rated too lightly, it will not flex enough to "load" properly on the cast.  If the lure is too heavy it will flex too much for a good cast.  10lb Test sounds heavy for a light lure.  Check your rod line rating.  The ideal line text is in the middle.  For Medium power spinning rods it is typically from 6 to 12 lb.  Since you are using a lighter lure, stay on the lower side.

Some spinning reels cast better than others, but overall the 2500 size will cover most situation.

What is the line rating and lure rating for that Cherrywood?

IMPO a new reel won't help it only stores the line and pays it out. It's the rod, line, and the lure being used with that rod. They need to all be in the ratings setup for the rod.

I'm going to make a wild guess here, and say that you don't have enough line on the reel, if you can only cast 15 feet or so.

Fill the spool to within 1/16" of the lip, and try it again. Try some 8lb test Trilene XL.

...went to the feed and seed this morning, got me a 6' medium casting rod and some 6 lbs. test line.   My casts are like butter.  I had a blast this morning reeling in huge smallmouths.  They just love these joe's flies spinners.     Thank you all for your help!
