LAO162 Posted August 2, 2008 Posted August 2, 2008 Since I have to drive quite a ways or order on-line, is there a decent substitute for UltraSoft 12# that can be found at the big box stores when I don't have time to get the real thing? I'm thinking maybe P-Line CX Premium in a higher test? Thanks Quote
Aaron Posted August 3, 2008 Posted August 3, 2008 If you find some Gamma copolymer give that a try. It is one of my favorite lines but it is a little on the expensive side. Quote
LAO162 Posted August 3, 2008 Author Posted August 3, 2008 Thanks Aaron. I've read a lot of great things about Gamma and although I haven't found it locally, it is available at most of the places where I shop on-line. Quote
Super User Chris at Tech Posted August 3, 2008 Super User Posted August 3, 2008 I think you'll like P-Line CX Quote
skillet Posted August 3, 2008 Posted August 3, 2008 Before getting YZUS I tried the P-Line CX and really liked the strength and it cast well too. IMHO it has issues with memory. This was before trying KVD Line Conditioner. I think it would really help the CX. If for any reason I couldn't get YZUS, that's what I'm gonna do... As Ever, skillet Quote
The_Natural Posted August 3, 2008 Posted August 3, 2008 Pline CX Premium would be my choice for a super limp line. CX Premium is very thin...make sure you buy a comparable diameter. Quote
LAO162 Posted August 3, 2008 Author Posted August 3, 2008 What do you think about Floroclear, last night I saw that the P-Line website says that relative to CX Premium, Floroclear has 30% more Florocarbon, 10% more stretch and a slightly higher breaking strength? Quote
basspimple Posted August 3, 2008 Posted August 3, 2008 flouroclear is an excellent line. good stretch, not a lot of memory, and casts like a dream. only thing ive come to find out wrong with it is its abrasion resistance isnt the greatest. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted August 3, 2008 Super User Posted August 3, 2008 Bass Pro has original Hybrid on sale for $4.88. I would suggest buying a spool or two of the #12 and treating it with KVD Line & Lure Conditioner: http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_10201217____SearchResults I haven't fished P-Line CX Premium yet, but The_Natural is familiar with both lines so his advice is based on an experienced comparison. I think Gamma Copolymer is another viable alternative. Pencil Pusher's suggestion probably won't work out too well for you. Good luck! 8-) Quote
LAO162 Posted August 4, 2008 Author Posted August 4, 2008 Thanks for the suggestions. I can find the regular Hybrid at Walmart. I'll look at it again. I had to ask about substitutes because I was trying out the 12# US Saturday morning. After a couple hours, on the last cast of the morning, I wanted to launch the bait towards some distant cover that I had been missing. I ended up casting as hard as I could and just caught the branch that was about 10 feet in front of me :-X The result was not pretty :'( :'( Quote
