Hey all

If you were to build a rod specifically for a Daiwa Pixy, what ratings would you use?  Lookin to build a rod for it.  I am leaning towards a

St. Croix Avid or LE blank....

Is medium too heavy, if I went with a medium light it would have to be a spinng blank wrapped as a casting.  Thoughts?

First off I wouldn't build strictly to the reel. I would build for the technique. Lure and line weight, will have more to do with the rod than the reel. The reel only influences the balance of the finished rod, it only holds and pays out the line.

Just my .02¢ from my rod bench.

Tight Lines!!!

Gotcha

That would lead me to wanting to throw as light as possible, around 1/8 oz... weightless plastics and mini cranks.

So my question is, would there be any drawbacks on using a spinning blank as a casting rod.

I would think not, as the blank is just a blank but am wondering if the properties of the blank differ between casting and spinning as rated by the manufacturer. Thanks.

I'm assuming your wanting to build...

A blank is just a blank I have used spinning blanks for baitcasting rods before. The properties you speak of would be the taper. The casting blank may have more taper then a spinning.

An exotic reel like that requires an equally exotic rod. If you are up to the challenge, I would suggest this rod from Evergreen. You can get it at http://www.plat.co.jp/shop/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=22_80_622_625&products_id=3318.

Bassripper

for what it's worth, I built a 3C66MLF up as a spinning rod.  It's a great little rod and would probably make a nice match to the Pixy... I use that rod for what you will probably use the pixy for.

Thank you everyone, that's the info I needed. I think I am going to wait until the new blanks come out from St. Croix. The new LE looks promising with the SCV and SCVI butt section. I think they are coming out in October.

Thanks again fellas!

Evergreen too rich for my blood. Any opinions on Kistler LTA He70MLC, seems this rod is rated for 1/16.

I fish a Pixy on that rod.  Match made in heaven IMO.
