What is the general concensus on the Quantum Accurist reel?

I have searched the forum and have found mostly generally decent feed back on the Quantum Accurist reel, 7.1 Burner w/flippin switch.

Is that fair to say, that its generally a well regarded reel and works quite well?  I am looking to replace a Abu Garcia Black Max that I have on one of my cheaper combos, and was looking to upgrade to a better reel.  The Accurists can be had for 70-80 right now on ebay or other places.

Don't know about that one but the Energy PT 7:1 is one of the smoothest, if not the smoothest I own. I also own a Revo STX. I like them both but the energy is tops and can be bought for $100 or less right now. It was regularly $189 or $199.

Some people will say yes, BUT I own a Shimano Citica 201D, and a Curado 101D, and the latest Quantum Accurist's, both the 501CX, and 501PT. I like the Quantums, and (in the CX's case) have been used hard for 2 years with no signs of slowing down.  The Shimano diehards will add there .02 soon enough. But I like the Quantums, and will buy more. Now 8 years ago...............you couldn't pay me to use one, but over the past few years they have really come out with some great stuff, and I am exited about there 2009 offerings.

I have used my fair share of quantum reels in the past and they were all junk. I will never buy one again. I even had a quantum energy spinning reel fall completely apart on me while trout fishing. I mean I set the hook, the spool fell off the reel into the river and the handle broke in two pieces.

I have since moved on to be a shimano enthusiast, and recommend any of their mid to higher end products. My best advice is save up and buy quality equipment.

just bought a energy off the flea market section and i absolutly LOVE it imo reels are found bu trail and eror some ppl may not like them but its all personal preference

I have several Quantums, including 4 older model Energy PTs, an Accurist PT (the 6.2:1, it's a couple seasons old), and  KVD Signature Series from '05 that is virtually identical to the Accurist except for the color.  The only problems I've ever had with any Quantum reel is that the finish was not very durable on the old Energy reels and tended to peel off pretty easily.  Other than that though, I have no complaints.  My Accurist is a solid, great performing reel that I have paired with my 7' XH Carrot Stick for a pitching/flipping combo.  I'm looking forward to trying out their new line of reels, too.

I used to be a Quantum guy but quit buying Quantum after using Energies and Tour Editions.  I was always impressed with the Accurists I had, however.  They have great drags and are pretty smooth for the price.

i just picked one up off of ebay for 50 bucks and a shimano convergence for 50.

i'm new to baitcasting and i'd say that's not bad for about $100

I had one but replaced it with a revo. It's a pretty heavy reel. The finish came off pretty quick on mine also.

I have 3 that are at least 5 years old.  I have had zero problems with them and I am not big into real maintenance.

Strong, smooth, silent and reliant.

You will be very happy with Shimano

reels, but to address the original question,

we have several members who are Quantum

fans. I am not one of them. I think you would

be better off with another brand, whether it's

Shimano, Daiwa or Abu Garcia.
