Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted July 22, 2008 Super User Posted July 22, 2008 http://www.tackletour.com/reviewicast08ardent.html Pretty innovative new design. No drag star, preset for 22lb of drag pressure. This thing looks really, really cool and only at a $149 price? If they come out with a lefty, might have to give it a shot.... Quote
Super User flechero Posted July 22, 2008 Super User Posted July 22, 2008 That's a shame... could have been a cool reel. Not preset drag, permanent- 22lbs of drag mean 2 things... lots of people getting replacement rods under "no fault warranties" and lots of nice fish lost to line breakage. Quote
aggiebassin Posted July 22, 2008 Posted July 22, 2008 i agree with flechero, you don't need all that drag, even on my revo i probably don't use 8-10# when flipping and pitching. people are gonna load that thing up w/ braid and break some rods, or break their line if they use mono/flouro Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted July 22, 2008 Super User Posted July 22, 2008 That just insane!!!!!!!!!! Quote
Jake. Posted July 22, 2008 Posted July 22, 2008 It might have some flaws, but I think they do deserve some credit for being innovative. Quote

I agree with the whole drag thing. Plus how long it that drag going to last being that it is permantly locked down. It has been my experience that leaving a drag locked down over a long period of time makes for an uneven drag. Maybe they use some new material though. Interesting reel but I don't think it is for me. Quote
Super User Raul Posted July 22, 2008 Super User Posted July 22, 2008 http://www.tackletour.com/reviewicast08ardent.htmlPretty innovative new design. No drag star, preset for 22lb of drag pressure. Innovative ? A copy of a design that 's over 20 years old which BTW you don 't see no more cuz it never took grip with the anglers, never became popular and therefore it became discontinued in a very short period of time, anybody heard of the Shimano BushMaster ? Super User roadwarrior Posted July 22, 2008 Super User Posted July 22, 2008 Raul, Tell us the story about inventing the leash. Do you remember when you were having problems walking your baby triceratops? Did that inspire you to become a veterinarian? Quote

Did that inspire you to become a veterinarian? Didn 't have trikies back then, don 't like veggie eaters, I prefered raptors, no need for leash to walk them, tie a chunk of meat to your pelt thong and they follow, only problem was that T rexes also liked the chunk of meat and we didn 't want to mess with those. Luckily, RW was here to show me the error of my way. I think the reel is a neat concept and has some merit. But the fit of that reel in the third picture looks shoddy to me. Quote
Speed Worm Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 An issue no one has brought up yet: spool access! I don't know about most people but I like having my thumb all the time when I flip and pitch. There is no way you can get the accuracy and presentation without having good spool control. Maybe you are meant to put your thumb on the spool rim? Quote
