I've used their Tapp copy with success.   I just hate Tapps for some reason - even though I've caught fish on them...  

Nice quality crank - - I'd like to try their Poe's copy.

What about the casting? Does it get cought in the wind? I never tried the tapp replica.

They cast well.....I never had any problems.  

I just don't like the action of Tapps....I know a lot of tournaments have been taken with them, and they're in the boxes of a lot of cranking pros, but I just don't care for them.      They don't really have any "roll" or "wobble"......it's almost completely side-to-side movement (wiggle) - - really tight action.

Those are good baits, I've talked to the guy that builds them over the net.  I can't remember his name of the top of my head.  The only thing I don't like about those baits are the plastic lips, he should use polycarbonate but it is a big time consuming pain to cut your own lips.

Avid, all baits are copies of other baits in some form or fashion.

Another word for replica is "ripoff"  

He's stealing someone else's design which I suppose happens in the lure making world.   But doesn't even try to make it his own.  He blatantly copies the Poe's design and tells you exactly which model he is copying.  

This not only speaks of a lack of craftsmanship, it also lacks integrity IMHO.

It's a replica because Tapp's aren't made anymore.  WEC and a few other's make a 'Tapp'...it's almost a generic term for that style/action of a bait.  The Bagley B2 has been copied a bunch, and sadly the copies are better.  Brian's Bee 2, H&T HT2, WEC E2, etc. are all B2 copies.

The Tapp is not a Poe's original pattern, that bait is copied from an old handmade called a Blazer.  The guy that made it originally is from N.C., if I'm remembering this right.  I think his name was Shawn Blazer, I'll have to make a call and make sure this is right.  WEC copied that bait and it won some money and now everybody makes a copy of that bait.    

Most of the baits I make are bits and pieces from old and current baits.  I also copy old crank baits that are not made anymore.  Does this take away from the craftsmanship in my baits?   I say no, my baits are as good if not better made than any wooden bait you can buy, no matter if it's a copy or Big M original.

hmmmm.....I guess that if I follow some of the logic here, a Yum Dinger is no good, because it's a "replica" of a Senko, right?  ;D

I think a better description of these baits is "derivative" instead of "replica."   I have cranks derived from the Bagley B2 design that may look similar to the Bagley, but behave QUITE differently.   Most of these cranks are altered / improved upon the original design to either offer something that isn't made anymore (like the Tapp) or a higher quality, better performing version of the crank (like all the Balsa B types).    

I think I'm going to commission Marty to build me a top quality derivative of a Bagley Smoo  (j/k... )  

........although I kinda like Smoos..... :

It's about advertising your product as a copy of someone else's product.

Crank from Bagley that looks a bit like a banana - - apparently they weren't too popular.   I have some of the #3 Smoos...medium divers.   They have a fairly wide snakey action (that long skinny body kicking back and forth looks pretty cool).

I'm not even sure if they make them anymore - - I would assume they were discontinued some time ago.

I still use em once in a while.

Catch nice size bluegill on em.

bass will hit em too.

I'll use em as a mini wake bait.

Remember the ole Helin flat fish?

I fish these the same way.
