If I didn't know any better I'd say you were from Quebec. I'm quite sorry if you didn't understand my English seeing as your from Virgina and all j/k, but you see i do not think quantum can sell a reel at 280 or even 190? At the same price as the sweet new zillion why not get the zillion. Curado E got best in show Quote

bassripper2000 Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 It's amazing how a name can make or break a product. I bet if it said Daiwa or Shimano, people would buy them at 280! Quote
The_Natural Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 More importantly...a $280 reel that is made in China!! Quote

Bass Pro Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 I remember that "clear" braided line by Berkley also won best in show last year. I don't think I've ever heard anything good about it. Arrius also won a few, with those goofy lookin rods, before Ken jumped shipped... Not sure how much stock I put in those awards.... Just sayin. Quantum is a joke. I guess they had to do something to try and sell reels, I just wish they would have 1 original thought instead of copying Daiwa's reel designs. Quote
Cigarlover 1 Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 If there good enough for the best bass fisherman in the world that can't be all that bad. I'm not saying I'm going out to buy one, I'm an Abu fan, and I agree the $280 price tag seems pretty steep but they do have a pretty good collection of pros fishing they're "crappy" reels. Just something to think about. Quote

And Daiwa® was copying Shimano® designs in the late 80's and early 90's : They all (the MFGR's) have been using each others designs for years... : Quote

bmadd Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 If your career weighed on your performance of FISHING...why would you fish with something that would not give you the best chances of fishing at your highest ability. I have never owned a Quantum. BUT...I have noticed that the majority of Pros on the circuit all fish with gear most members of the board deem "junk". Your top three pro staffs would be 1. Quantum 2. Pure Fishing 3. Bass Pro I understand using lower modulus rods for tournaments, seeing how brittle the high end rods can be. Nobody wants to miss a paycheck because a rod broke on a hook set. Not sure about the rods though. Maybe we're all just too picky :-? Quote

Well the quantum reels work fishing is always up to the guy holding the rod im sure a reel will hold up to a day of fish and even if it breaks he has 8 other on the boat. Quote

When the money and points are on the line as it is in the Elite series every second counts for these pros. When success is vital, whether it be to make a sponsor happy (which most sponsors like for you to do well. Who wants to buy a product endorsed by a nobody) or to fish your way into the next year's classic, time is of the essence. I can't imagine these guys fishing with something that isn't solid. Maybe the replace them after each tournament but I do believe that for the one's who stick around and are in the spotlight-they fish with products that help to get them there. Quote

Why does Tiger Woods use Nike clubs? Quote
Super User burleytog Posted July 18, 2008 Super User Posted July 18, 2008 Why does Tiger Woods use Nike clubs? I don't know if you can use golf clubs as an example. The clubs that Tiger uses are completely custom and not available to the general public. Now whether or not the reels that KVD or any of the other Quantum guys are off-the-shelf reels is debatable. While the Elite pros have to place a lot of faith in their equipment, I still don't see them fishing a lot of the products if they're not getting paid. Quote

You are absoluteltly correct and that was what I was aiming towards, I can't say 100% but I am willing to bet that the pro's aren't using off the shelf rods n reels. They may have the company name on them but they are not stock. Quote
