spooty Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 For starters I'm kinda new here so hello everyone. This site is packed with great people and info. Well what can I say but wow beautiful reel so buttery smooth and braking system is awesome, one concern tho the handle has a minute amount of play, is this normal ( this being only my second baitcaster) I also have a bps bionic plus and it is the same way.So maybe I'm just overanalyzing. Thanks all and glad to be a member of this great site. Quote
Uncle Leo Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 The handle should not have any play, you should take it back. Quote

I bought a new handle from on the Quantum Website which fits the Energy and Tournament. Beleive it or not in comparing the cross-sectional on these two reels the only differance is the handle. The tournament adds bearing to the thumb knobs for $11.00 you will have a Tournament. Quote
Dawson Posted July 11, 2008 Posted July 11, 2008 You are going to love your new Energy. I have a few high end reels, and for some reason, the Energy feels the best in my hand. I cannot explain why. Also, I can cast more accurately with it than my other reels. Same with my Quantum Accurist AC500CX. Feels awesome and casts like a dream. Also note: with the Energy, for the first several fishing trips, you will more than likely hear a little bit of bearing whine when you cast. Don't worry, it's normal. Once the bearings seat in, the noise goes away. I have a fishing buddy that has 3 of them and he said all 3 of his did this until they got broke in a little. Mine did it too, and now it is completely silent. I could not be happier with a reel. ;D Quote
bass wrangler569 Posted July 11, 2008 Posted July 11, 2008 I had to tighten everything when I first got mine two. My spool would barely turn and I thought I had a serious problem but as soon as I tightened everything it was fine. Energys are great reels. They are every bit as smooth as my tour edition IMO. Oh, and welcome to the forums. Quote
Super User .RM. Posted July 11, 2008 Super User Posted July 11, 2008 The tournament adds bearing to the thumb knobs for $11.00 you will have a Tournament. What is a thumb knob?????As a reel service tech I wish that all anglers would take the time to read the parts list for their reels and learn the proper wording for each part. I am assuming your talking about the crank paddles.. Also note: with the Energy, for the first several fishing trips, you will more than likely hear a little bit of bearing whine when you cast. It has and will always cause a whine when in high speed rotation on the beginning of a cast. As the blocks in the system become more rounded (the shape of the brake race) they tend to not sound off as much (break in so to speak). The reason it isn't bearings is that the Polymer-stainless hybrid PT bearing system used for spool support are proprietary poly coated (means only Quantum has them), and built to tighter tolerances than most stock "Stainless" bearing packs, they don't break in. Just my .02¢ from the bench.. Tight Lines & Enjoy The new Reel! Quote
