CRANKBAIT ROD HELP!

Ok, first off, everyone go to ***.com. Next, look at the Casting rods. I want several rods all from the same company. i want, more importantly, no foregrip, open butt design, and over 7' tall, meium to med. heavy action CRANKBAIT rods. I also want a 7'6" flipping rod, and a 7' frog rod. I want all rods to come from the same company. WHO SHOULD I BUY FROM? ANYONE HAVE ANY EXPIRIENCE WITH ALL OF THESE BRANDS? THANK YOU!

What applications do you PERSONALLY prefer a high 7.0:1 gear ratio, vs. a slower, 5.1:1. Or, do you prefer something else?

 I don't have much experience with the crankbait rods, as I don't fish crankbaits all too much.

But if you want all rods from one company, Dobyns rods are awesome. I have 6 now and the next rod I'm getting is the 705 Crankbait rod.

They have two flipping sticks, both of which I love, great rods for frogs, if you're really set on a 7ft frog rod the 705 , or the 736, or 766 if you want taller.

They all have no front grip, but only some of the models have a split grip. They balance perfectly , even the heavier flipping sticks feel light in your hands.

As for reels, are you doing a lot of deep cranking? Some guys say they swear by the 5.1:1 , other says they like the regular 6.

If you are fishing deep running crankbaits go for the 5.1:1.  Trying to crank a wobbling crankbait with a 7:1 reel will be no fun at all.  I use a Pflueger Trion 5.2:1 reel for deep cranking and couldn't bee happier.

'st croix offers 3 cranking sticks in the series ,,, the rod on top of the pic is the big cranker ( 7ft med-hev mod ) ... then they have 2 more cranking sticks ,,, i olny have the big cranker but i like it so far

I like the specs on the LTB St. Croix rods. Let me ask... I am most concerned about ripping the small tebles out of a big bass' mouth. I want to ask you, are the tips of the rod hard, or do they have softer tips? Like, fast action, or slower action? I personally throw the Triumph Series from St. Criox: are these rods comparable?

The triumph is an insult to the St. Croix name IMO. The rods do not compare at all.

I use a Legend tournament for my crankbaits and I love it.

I will agree that the Triumph and the LT probably don't compare I don't think the Triumph is that bad of a rod. I fish one pretty often and have no complaints.

I can't comment on the LT's because I don't own any, my high end rods are Loomis's, but the Triumph is nowhere near an IMX.

An insult? Wow. How so? I mean, I use them because its all I can afford. But, I find them pretty good for the price. Why do you think they are an insult?

The triumph is an insult to the St. Croix name IMO. The rods do not compare at all.

I use a Legend tournament for my crankbaits and I love it.

I am a big fan of St. Croix rods, three Avids and two Legend Elite.

The Triumph was TOTALLY embarassing when it first came out.

The rods were assembled in China without ANY quality control.

To add insult to injury, whoever was in charge of distributing them

here, in the United States, must have NEVER inspected any of

the rods!

Maybe this has been addressed, but I still don't think the Triumph

should not be a part of the St. Croix line-up. They have spent too

many decades establishing a reputation for quality to be tarnished

at the low end of the market.

the tips are mod ( or soft ) they are great cranking sticks ... as for them compairing to the triumph ,,, you cant do it ,, the two rods are entirely different the LTs are almost the croix rod made the triumph is made in china and to me is a sappy imitation of a premiere :

Yea I LOVE St. Croix Rods too.

I had 3 avids(but one got stolen last year), I own 3 legend tournaments, a premiere and 2 triumphs that i picked up on sale and both of them have been retired due to lack of quality.

The Legends are by far the best rod I have ever used, but I still haven't tried to legend elite. I would suggest them to anybody.

I just picked up a LTB70MM (Small Cranker) for $149.99. It was on sale because the new models($220) have a split grip and this one has the full grip. I like to cast with two hands much of the time and like the feel of the full grip. I went to the tackle shop to buy a Avid but the LTB was $10 less. You can't go wrong with St. Croix rods. If you can I would get an Avid or LTB.
