Tokyo Tony Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 Hey guys, well a week and a half ago I bought a Carrot Stix as my jig rod - 7'3" MH F. At first I liked it quite a bit, but the more I used it, the more it felt lacking, especially in sensitivity and overall feel. I started to regret getting it instead of the Crucial I was comparing it with in Cabela's. Well I ended up going to Cabela's and trading the Carrot in for a Crucial 7' MH F (and some new hooks), and I have to say, I much prefer the Crucial. I might miss that orange color for a while, but I'll trade looks for more sensitivity anyday By the way, Cabela's customer service, as you all know, is top-knotch. I brought the rod in, explained that there was nothing wrong with it, but that I just didn't like it as much as I thought I would. They took it back, no problem, even though I told them I had used it for a week. The Carrot wasn't bad, I just didn't like the feel. Even though it was lightweight, and more expensive than the Crucial, it felt kind of cheap, IMO. Anyone else find that? Quote
skillet Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 Man, you sure have set yourself up for some grief from the Carrot Stix guys ! Haven't tried one myself but I bought what I consider my first really nice rod, a Crucial 6'6" MXF. IMHO a GREAT rod, Sure have some high hopes for it ... As Ever, skillet Quote

As Ever, skillet Yeah, I know - I almost didn't post, but I figure all the other Carrot posts have been so positive, might as well get a counterpoint right? : Honestly though, I stand by what I said, and again, the Carrot is a nice rod. IMO, the Crucial is nicer Skillet - you're in for a treat with the Crucial. Now I haven't tried all the $140 rods out there, but I can't imagine for the price it gets any better than a Crucial. Quote

I agree I have an avid a carrot boyd duckett and st.croix legend elite bait casting rods and my 2 crucial i like just as much as them. Same goes for spinning rods Quote
JigNBig Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 Powell rods are pretty good for the $140 dollar price range. I havent tried the Crucials though so i cant compare the two. Quote
FR0G Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 I am thinking about selling my Carrot for a Powell. It is really hard to fish with my Powell, then pick up the Carrot. The Carrot does feel cheap. I will miss the way it looks though. Quote
Jake P Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 You will not be disappointed with your Crucial Tony trust me . Quote
ArcticCat500 Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 wow...I've been bangin my head for a couple weeks now about a couple new rods....found a guy on ebay selling the GLoomis MossyBacks for well under the retail, read great things but the Avid's, Crucial's,Kistler's and E21's, lotta guys say go Powell and B&R Outlaw. So many rods, so many choices. I dont know where to turn??????? Quote
Hooked_On_Bass Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 I love my two Crucials! Never fished with a Carrot. Quote
Super User Jeff H Posted July 8, 2008 Super User Posted July 8, 2008 I was really surprised how sensitive the Crucials are. I have the CRCX66M, CRCX66MH, and CRS60MH. Those casting models with X-Fast actions are "hyper-sensitive" to me. First fish that hit on those actually startled me. I'm getting used to it now. Great rods for the price!!! Quote
quant PT Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 The only problem with Crucials is once you have one, you want to buy more. I've bought three this year already. Quote
crankybaits Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 I've had a 7' MH crankbait crucial for a while now. It's a pretty good rod. I still like my falcon Cara crankbait and my St. Croix avids better though. Quote
Jake P Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 The only problem with Crucials is once you have one, you want to buy more. I've bought three this year already. The first time I held a crucial at the store i was hooked, once i tested the rod on a few fish there was no looking back 8-). Quote
Super User David P Posted July 9, 2008 Super User Posted July 9, 2008 Finally I start hearing some complaints / negative reviews. The guides alone, not to mention limited actions and powers, were the two reasons I never even bothered to buy one. All power to the guys that like them though. Quote
skillet Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 TT, Shows how much I know ! You 've got nothing but positives from the Crucial guys. The Shimano Posse is alive and well standing behind their rods ... As Ever, skillet Quote
Ballpark Frank Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 I have been considering the same thing, except I would have to sell my Carrot(for less due to the crappy finish). Quote
rwf56 Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 I have five 7' Crucials and I plan on getting a couple of spinning rods at christmas . I can't find any thing wrong with mine , been using them a year and a half . Quote
