Does this place carry quality gear? High end lures?

They are building one here in town and I'm kinda looking forward to having another place close by to buy some stuff and a I'm a little curious about what to expect.

The high end is not the target market here in Memphis. Some, but very limited and never "in store" specials on quality merchandise. It seems to me that they mostly sell clothes!

I did buy a St. Croix last week for $109, which is okay, but not a great deal on rods being discontinued.

It says on the site that they carry roboworm, which is definitely a plus.

I am to understand that when it comes to tackle, they leave ordering up to someone who works at the store. ours is pretty crappy. but they do have a decent rod selection. lamiglas, dobyns, powell, loomis, shimano and a full reel selection too. they carry lucky craft, zoom, reaction innovations, roboworm etc, but i think that there selection is pretty lame, especially compared to some of the AMAZING pro shops we have out here.

the one here has a big selection of high end reels ,rods, and lures. they dont have it all but its a new place to go shopping, if anything it cant hurt right

The closest Sportsman's warehouse to me has a real good selection of reels, fly fishing stuff, and plastics.

They have a an ok selection of line and rods.

They have a poor selection of cranks and other hard lures.

They have a down right pathetic selection of hooks and terminal tackle. I don't shop there much.

Thats what I'm thinking.....and fourbizzle says they carry some high end rods and reels....that will be a nice change of pace.

I really like the Sportsmans Warehouse in Tri-Cities. They carry a lot of bass gear, rods, ect, and have some good prices on their tackle. Nice to see a stor that has so much, but you are right about the managers. If you get a good manager that is a bass fisherman, he will get in the good stuff........

We have a Bass Pro and several Academys here in OKC, and Sportsmans Warehouse carries everything they don't.  Some things they carry that Bass Pro and Academy don't are, Roboworm, Reaction Innovations (the FULL line), Yamamoto (the FULL line...even the 8" and 10" grubs, 7" Senkos, Slim Senkos, and ALL the colors,  etc.  A full two walls worth!), Lucky Crafts for about $2 cheaper than Bass Pro (normal price).  Maybe they just have a good fishing manager, but it's almost like a fishing specialty store compared to bass pro and academy...I love visiting. They even carry specialy stuff like those persuader baby ducks, Castaic baby bass baits, and I saw the new spot-remover jigs there today (which look killer).  They are having an end of year clearance right now...all Legend Tournaments are $150 (not all Sportsmans carry them), all Avid are $99-$119, and discountinued Loomis rods are knocked in the dirt!  I put two IMX SJR783's on hold today ($120 a pop), and an MBR784c GL3 for $100.  I about crapped my pants.  Also, all Rapala SSR's were $1.99, as well as select husky jerks, fat raps, etc.  It was a good day, except for the hook in my finger (another story).

Sportsmans warehouse is making a push to bring in some high end tackle. They recently placed orders with me for ten of thier stores . The main buyer is also looking at carrying a couple more premium brands of swimbaits. If you guys want specific things in your local SW why dont you go to thier website and ask for them. Matt Evens is the buyer and after talking with him I think he would apreciate the feedback.

I purchased a G Loomis Frog Rod there (it was mispriced and they honored the errored price that was on the rod).  I also purchased several Lucky Craft Jerkbaits there on sale.  So they do have some higher end equipment and do have some pretty good deals at times (especially on reels).

Dude.....IMX's for $129? How many did they have? I need a couple.... ;)

Sounds like SW will at least be worth walking into.....due to open in mid November, about a week before we get our Christmas Club money! Looks like the whole family might be getting fishing gear! Hopefully Grandma will like her new rod and reel combo!

We only have one Sportsmans Warehouse here locally...and it's a 30min haul from me.  After reading about some deals on another forum, I headed down and found the IMX SJR's on sale for $120 (783).  They had two, and only one GL3 784 left (the guy said they had others, but sold them).  I'm a big-time bargain hunter...and this eclipses about every bargain I've received all year.  I'm definitely stoked...

Ours likes to hire a bunch of idiots in the fishing department.  I know more about fishing than 80% of them and i've learned most everything from fourbizzle (and that's not saying much... jk buddy).  But seriously, i just went in their today and was getting some line.  I was listening to an employee try to tell a customer the difference between braid and mono.  He told the poor guy that braid was awesome except that it stretches more than mono!!!  After the employee left the customer I cleared things up a bit for him.  I know that this is probably not the same for all SW, but it gets frustrating dealing with these idiots every week.  Other than that, I got to agree that there selection isn't as good as the rest of the AMAZING pro shops we have out here, but for me it's 5 minutes away, so I can't complain too much.  They do cary about 90% of the items I am looking for, and no matter what I go in there for, even if it's just for 1 thing, I'll end up spending an hour in there and come out with a lot more than 1 item.

Brandon

P.S.  And they have some FINE looking girls workin there as well!!!!

The ones in my area are as close to a BPS we will ever get. They will have a fair selection of baits ranging from Robos, Senkos, Zoom, Rapalas, Cotton Cordells, a limited selection of line, rods and reels.

Nothing magical, but not too shabby.

There is some truth to that in our store too, with the exception of the manager, who is knowledgeable and a friend. He also wants to order many other things but his hands are tied. I recall one time seeing a befuddled employee who didn't know jack from jill when posed with a fishing question. I interjected to the relief of the customer, and with my input "assisted" him into grabbing a Citica D and a Compre rod. It was his first time to use a casting set up and I even gave him some tips to ease the learning curve with his reel. He was sold on the rod and reel and walked away a very happy guy. My buddy was off that day but that employee would have blown that sale. :-?

And when they have deals, they have steals. I bought a Compre (my trunk rod), an $89.00 rod for less than $55! The second best rod deal in my life ever!

Our Sportsman's Warehouse is great... they carry a big selection of mid & higer end rods and reels.  A Soft bait selection that never dissapoints me and a big selection of other tackle which includes many of the high end brands.  Even got all the big names in swimbaits.  Ours has a smaller clothing area than a lot of them...  but the fishing area is bigger than many of them.

The staff can be hit or miss- just like any other store.

I am a little confused. In St louis we have a BPS store and it also says it is a Sportsmans Warehouse. What's up with that?

Man, I think it sounds better than Bass Pro. When is bass pro going to start carrying roboworm and reaction innovations? There is no where to get roboworm around orlando. I can get a hold of reaction innovations at the lake toho tackle shop (which is awesome and has basically everything) does anyone know where I can get roboworm around orlando?

PS the bass pro staff are usually very knowledgeable. I wouldn't be surprised if they logged on to this forum every once in a while.  At the bass pro here the old inshore guys are great. they love to talk to you and give great tips that aren't cliche or something ive heard a million times. They don't seem to be just trying to sell my something.

Check with your BPS to see if they can order Roboworm, I know their Western stores carry Roboworm, it would be worth checking out.
