I just bought a new 6'-7" M MF Carrot stix spinning rod for my new Quantum TE30 reel.  Looking for opinions on the Carrot stix any pro 's and con's.

If you have already bought it, go try it out and see how YOU like it. After all, YOU are then one who is going to fish with it.

That being said. I have three and love them.

The only thing that bugs me is that hook holder....Cut that thing off!

I have a E21 edge rod which is very similar to the carrot stix and those hook holders on the rods suck. You will notice line like to jump around that hook holder.

I've ask countless of others and the only rod seems to be the spinning ones that have that problem.Baitcasting rods do not have that problem.

On the contrary, I have two Carrot stix BC's one Parabolic and the other a MH and I have trouble with the line going to the hook holder on both.

Still love the rods though, and will be getting more.

Summary of previous posts:

Pros:

Everyone that owns one claims to like them

Best feature is the Carrot Stix light weight

Relatively inexpensive or a "good" pricing point

Great (responsive) customer service

"Unique" look (color)

Cons:

Finish has worn off quickly on some rods

Guides suck

Hook holder is an issue for some

Sensitivity is "average" for the pricing point

The color is annoying

Note:

I DO NOT own a Carrot Stix, I'm holding

out for the next generartion, Celery Stix!

The hook holder is one of my favorite things about the carrot stix! I love the color too. My only gripe about them is that the finish does come off easily, they aren't as sensitive as my powell, but that was not expected, and the guides are crappy. But, so far I am glad with my purchase. Just kinda PO'd that now the Powells went down in price. I would rather have a Powell.

Yes, only on my spinning rod did I have that problem. Diagonal cutters and a file fixed it.

I personally think the guides are fine. Don't know what all the fuss is about.

i have the parabolic b/c and really like it. i too dont like the hook holder, even though it has not been an issue functionally.

the guides are different...both in material and looks. but what is the problem with them? i have yet to see anything wrong with them...if anything they may be beneficial when using braid (some older guides couldnt handle braid very well).

maybe someone could let me know what the problem with the guides actually is...?

There isn't a 'problem' with the guides per say, but the stainless steel rings aren't near as hard as ceramic rings, with the only benefit of the SS rings being their weight.  Rings are generally categorized from least hard to most hard when rating their performance; hence why SIC's are favored (they are very hard).  In turn, the stainless steel guides will also produce more friction than their ceramic counterpart...they just aren't as smooth.  The average Joe Blow may not notice any difference, but I can definitely tell a difference when I am working a hard-pulling moving bait like a deep diving crankbait, chatterbait, or spinnerbait.  If you don't notice it...don't let that info get you down...your line will be fine.

I just held one yesterday, wow was it light....

But the grips didn't feel great and the guides do suck!

While I don't like the way the guides look, I haven't had a single problem with them.

The foam on the handle is perfect.

I felt it was too rough and grainy, I guess I'm too use to the smooth-ish feel of cork

I can't figure out what the guide issue is either. :;)

I have the boyd duckett series and i actually like the guides except one bent up which was easily fixed, they need double footed guides.

I asked this question in another thread, but it wasn't answered:

Is a Crucial generally more sensitive than a Carrot Stix?

I'm beginning to regret choosing the Carrot only because it's not as sensitive as I had hoped (it's sensitive, but not really sensitive). I'm sure Cabela's would accommodate me...

Anyone?

I have a 7' Extra Heavy Carrot Stix paired with an Accurist PT spooled with 50 Sufix braid that I use for flipping/pitching.  The light weight of the rod more than makes up for a slightly heavier reel and it's a great combo for pitching/flipping all day.  The EVA grips are new to me, but very comfortable and I love the split seat for lots of blank contact while palming the reel.  I don't really care for the look of the stainless guides, but have had no problems with them, especially in the short cast applications that I use the rod for.  I'm definitely impressed with the rod for the price point and may be picking up another sometime soon after I sell some of my older stuff.

So far I really like my stix, although my line has gotten caught by that  darn hook holder a few times. This might be a dumb question but what does parabolic mean? I'm kinda new to bass fishing and was kinda curious.

The rod bends thought the whole blank kind of like and uglystick.

Fast action is the opposite it bends near the tip different tapers for diffrent techniques.

I do love the foam; I actually like it better than the Steez foam.  My Carrot foam stays black, and the foam on my steez rods started turning whitish after a couple of uses...like you could tell it was dirty.

What would you use the parabolic action for ?

crankbaits...

Or jerkbaits, possibly spinnerbaits, deep crank baits, large treble hooked lures.
