sambrochill Posted July 1, 2008 Posted July 1, 2008 Ok so I've been searching for a good baitcast reel, but my budget is very low. I'm only looking to spend about $40 or $50 dollars any suggestions on some pretty decent reels? Quote
Ballpark Frank Posted July 1, 2008 Posted July 1, 2008 Check out the Abu Garcia Black Max(49.99) and Silver Max(59.99)at ***. I have had both of these and for the money they are excellent reels. Another option is the Quantum Accurist II CX(aluminum frame is a plus), these can be found for $30-$50 dollars, since Quantum is discontinuing the model. I have three of these and they are great reels. There are other brands out there, but these are the only ones I have experience with. Quote
sambrochill Posted July 1, 2008 Author Posted July 1, 2008 hey thanks man, i found some on Ebay for really cheap but its not buy it now so its a gamble. but could you tell me anything about the whip with these reels? my friend owns a baitcast reel and it would get a lot of "whip" or whatever you'd like to call it and so the line would always tangle up on the spool Quote
CFFF 1.5 Posted July 1, 2008 Posted July 1, 2008 I bought a sliver max from ff0-tackle.com for like 35.00 plus $5 shipping. They don't always have them in stock but when they do they are a really good deal. Quote
Super User flechero Posted July 1, 2008 Super User Posted July 1, 2008 Under $50 is a tough range to find "good baitcast reels." You best bet is to find a used reel with a bunch of boat rash on it so it will fall into that price range... rashed up, you can get something like a citica, or other nice reel for that price. Quote
Aaron Posted July 1, 2008 Posted July 1, 2008 You could look for some of the Ambassadeur round reels. I have bought 4600's for less than $50 before. They don't have many bells and whistles but they are good solid reels. I own two 4600s and a 5600 and didn't pay more than $50 for any of them. Quote
BassinSoldier Posted July 1, 2008 Posted July 1, 2008 http://www.franksgreatoutdoors.com/products/116855_Procaster_100H.htm I have 2 of these and they are some serious WORKHORSES!! You can find these for pretty cheap now too, from 30-50 bucks depending on where u find it. Just my .02 but these reels are amazing for the price. I also use them for redfish when I go to Florida a couple times each year and they handle them just fine too! Quote
crappiekid24 Posted July 1, 2008 Posted July 1, 2008 I have a Quantum Accurist 2 and it is a great reel. No complaints. Cabelas has them for $60 if you wanted to spend a little more you could get a Quantum Accurist PT for $80 right now as they are being discontinued also. Both Quantum and Shimano are discontinuing good reels. Quote
Stasher1 Posted July 2, 2008 Posted July 2, 2008 I'm a big fan of the older Daiwa Procasters like the Procaster 6+1, Procaster Rojo, and Capricorn XTC. They're built on aluminum frames, have good brakes, decent drags, and can usually be found on Ebay in your price range. As a matter of fact, you can usually pick up brand new ones for what you're looking to spend, or a little more. Quote
Super User Catt Posted July 2, 2008 Super User Posted July 2, 2008 SALE Bass Pro Shops Bionic Plus Ratio: 6.3:1 Weight: 8.0 ozs Line capacity: 120 yds 12# Price: $39.88 Quote
Super User skunked_again Posted July 2, 2008 Super User Posted July 2, 2008 if youre not scared of ebay and handy you might look for the abu 4600 C4's. 98% of the time they can be serviced and work like new. Quote
Joe Boss Posted July 2, 2008 Posted July 2, 2008 You could look for some of the Ambassadeur round reels. I have bought 4600's for less than $50 before. They don't have many bells and whistles but they are good solid reels.I own two 4600s and a 5600 and didn't pay more than $50 for any of them. Abu has a low profile Ambassadeur the 2005 model. I have one it has 5 bearings, wiffle spool and a flipping switch. Its pretty sweet deal at $50.00 Quote
fretfishman Posted July 2, 2008 Posted July 2, 2008 I'd say the daiwa procaster rojo (around 50-60 on clearance right now), quantum accurist ac500cx (59$ at cabela's - not sure elsewhere), or if you can spend 20$ more the best deal I think in the lot of them - quantum accurist performance-tuned for 79.99. if you can't splurge the 20$ extra I'd go with the procaster rojo if it were me. g'luck! shootermcbob Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 Sam, Cabelas has a baitcaster called the dimension plus. they currently offer it as a combo with one of their tourney trail rods. the rod itself sells everyday for 59.00. the combo is .....59.00. I have two of the reels. I am a weekend bank fisherman and they serve me well. they have a composite frame, that has not broken while hauling in several fish last year....ok, maybe not that many, but i did catch a couple of 20 inch largemouth bass and the shakespeare dimension plus reel handled them with no problem. I operate on a tight budget as well and have had really good luck with this combo. as an added benefit, Cabelas backs everything they sell with a100% guarantee. Quote
BUCKEYEone Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 I bought a daiwa megaforce (with the twitchin bar) about a month ago and have no complaints. Its smooth and so far feels pretty tough, definitely worth the $50 I paid for it! Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted July 3, 2008 Super User Posted July 3, 2008 Either save up a few more dollars or buy a used Shimano Citica. They come up for sale on the Flea Market frequently. http://www.deloscustomtackleshack.com/reels/shimanocitaca.html 8-) Quote
flippinstick Posted July 5, 2008 Posted July 5, 2008 For about $65 you can pick up a pflueger echelon. It is a pretty solid reel for the price in my experience. Quote
joeyd50 Posted July 5, 2008 Posted July 5, 2008 I own 2 of these, my son has 1 and another guy I fish with has 1, never had any problems. I had no trouble getting a 19.5lb Striper in the boat with only 12lb line on this reel. http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_96615_100001001_100000000_100001000_100-1-1 Good Luck Joe Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted July 5, 2008 Super User Posted July 5, 2008 The Abu Black Max and Silver Max are carried by Walmart. Quote
