deep-cranker Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 Can anyone tell me if wec crankbaits is going to come out with any new baits, when there new web siteis going to be finished, and is they have a email address? Quote
Super User Marty Posted October 19, 2007 Super User Posted October 19, 2007 Aren't WEC baits made by Zoom? As long as I've had internet access, the Zoom web site has been a permanent future event. Quote
The_Natural Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 Ed Chambers has never had a website to my knowledge. WEC baits, a.k.a William Edward Chambers, is the founder of Zoom, and also known as one of the best crankbait painters of all time (and builder). He has no schedule of what baits he will produce or what models he will continue. My favorite bait is a shallow crankbait, and my favorite shallow crank is the WEC Wobbler. These baits were made in '06. Some say they are discontinued, but you never know if he will produce another batch. There have always been only two websites that carry WEC's, and the are www.peepersbaits.com and www.bubbajackstackle.com He does have a new bait out...called the 'Sand Flea' that Bubba Jack's has (if it isn't sold out already). Each WEC bait is hand signed by Ed Chambers and engraved with the build date on the bill. They have the hardest clear coat of any crank I have every fished, but the action and quality is why I buy them. Ed can seriously paint...he builds a mean crank. I'm posting a pic of my favorite...the 'Wobbler'. These are fetching a lot of money ($24-$80) on ebay. I wouldn't sell my chocolate shad Wobbler for $100. This 6lb guy fell to the chololate shad two years ago out of a small pond I fish...I haven't caught him since. I save them for when I need to catch a bass... Quote

Even if it is ever finished, it won't include the WEC hardbaits I imagine. Since they aren't mass produced or carried consistently by any major retailer, you just have to be an angler 'in the know' to know about them and where to buy them. Quote
The_Natural Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 Damnit! I saw the Sand Flea 2 weeks ago at Bubba Jacks when it was brand new, and they are already sold out! I already told my wife she is getting me a handful of WEC's for Christmas. I can't believe I've already missed out on the sand flea. Stringjam...know where to score any?! Quote

Unfortunately not......and I feel like a complete dummy for selling my WEC Wobblers now!! Ah well.....I still have my Z-Flats!!! .....pretty much like a flat-sided Wobbler. The only bad thing about WEC is that I've gotten several baits with crooked bills from them (strange for a bait this expensive!). Most of them are straight - - and they rock! Quote

Yeah...I heard you mention another time you bought a few WEC's with crooked bills. Definitely rare...they may even be worth more money...like a penny with two heads! Anyway...I have several of the Z-flats, which are also discontinued. Superb cool water bait... Quote
Super User 5bass Posted October 21, 2007 Super User Posted October 21, 2007 I really like the E1's around cover. Probably the best shallow cover cranks I own. They are without a doubt the most expensive. I've been lucky with the ones I've bought so far, I havent had any bill issues. Quote
The_Natural Posted October 21, 2007 Posted October 21, 2007 Quote How would you guys compair WEC crankbaits to lets say....Bagley bait co? Whats so bad about a crooked bill? Bagleys are fish catchers...I own a bunch of them and they work, but it's like anything else. You get what you pay for. A Honda is a nice car that runs well and is durable, but the Acura line is nicer with more amenities. The WEC is the same way. It has a thinner lexan bill, a better and more durable paintjob, and a better resale value. WEC's are just higher quality. Quote
BIG M Posted October 21, 2007 Posted October 21, 2007 Mr. Chambers make a very nice crank bait, but with the increase in demand they do turn out a few that missed the final inspection. WEC baits along with a couple of other companies are the closest thing to mass produced hand made baits. That is why they fetch the higher prices, and you do get what you pay for. everybody uses the same size lexan in our baits 1/16 of an inch thick, can't go thinner than that it has too much flex. There are lots of guys out there building baits as good as anything you can find on the market. But most fishermen are not willing to pay the price to have a top of line custom made bait. If you've never tried a top quality balsa wood crankbait you are selling yourself short. Quote
ejezze6 Posted October 24, 2007 Posted October 24, 2007 Do you or anyone out there know where I can buy wec crankbaits (z3's) besides bubbajack or peepers? Im trying to find these z3's in the citrus shad and I can't find any, those two websites are sold out and I really need these for my uncle. erica Quote

I'll assume yours is, so you can just send me a paypal bill. On a serious note, the bottom one is the chocolate shad...and I added the gammy red ewg's. The wobblers were discontinued in early '06, and even though they were discontinued only about a year and a half ago, they are pretty scarce. I've seen a few posts of people looking for them, and on ebay the discontinued WEC's will fetch $25-$80. I just looking on ebay...none to be found. Quote
Stringjam Posted October 31, 2007 Posted October 31, 2007 I saw a chocolate / pearl Wobbler on eBay the other day.....the auction only lasted about a day - - my guess is somebody contacted him and shot him a price to end it early. ; They're pretty cool baits - - tight wobbling action that looks very natural. Super User Munkin Posted October 31, 2007 Super User Posted October 31, 2007 The_Natural, I maybe willing to trade the chocolate wobbler since you like it so much? Once I return to Maryland I will try to find it as it is buried somewhere in my extras box. These I picked up at BPS in Missouri in early 2006 and I known I picked up at least 3 in different colors. I'd be willing to trade you for NIB Lucky Crafts or something. Quote
