SoCalRob Posted June 25, 2008 Posted June 25, 2008 Hey there all... I've got my Revo S (my only baitcaster) and I need to learn to adjust it. I know how to take the sideplate off and use the brakes, but what is your favorite setting? With the way mine is set up now since I'm a newbie to Baitcasting, I don't even need to thumb the spool. I believe I have all the brakes on and my casts don't go so far. How should I set these for better distance but good backlash control? My thumb is not fully coordinated yet, but it will come around. Super User flechero Posted June 25, 2008 Super User Posted June 25, 2008 You might set 2 opposing brakes on or 3 by using every other one. (keep opposites engaged to keep the spool balanced.) From there, play with the cast control and train your thumb. Quote
SoCalRob Posted June 25, 2008 Author Posted June 25, 2008 ** MODS feel free to move this to rods and reels...sorry for posting to wrong location. Flechero...does it sound like I have all the brakes on? Will changing this increase distance but also the likelihood of backlashes go up? Quote
21farms Posted June 25, 2008 Posted June 25, 2008 i believe the default position is 2 on/4 off...at least that's how my revo S came. so, if you haven't messed with it, that's still how it should be set up and that's what i'd recommend as well...i don't really think it should be necessary to monkey around inside the reel. the only other adjustment is the cast control knob. adjust it so that when you disengge the spool, your lurely falls to the floor but the spool does not continue to overrun once the lure has stopped. LAO162 Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 I've got a new Revo S this year as well. I have only 2 brakes on. If I have the spool tension fairly tight, I don't get any backlashes and use only minimal thumb. However, I also don't get much distance. Lately I've been loosening the spool tension and "whipping" it out harder to get more distance. The expense has been more backlashes. I think to become more proficient with a baitcaster, we have to take some more risks. Sort of "no pain, no gain." So, I consider myself still in the process of "educating my thumb." **** Luck! Super User .RM. Posted June 26, 2008 Super User Posted June 26, 2008 I have the Revo S-L, have had it for a season and a half now. The best way I found to set the reel up, is to follow the Basic Baitcast Reel Setup 101 article, but with a twist. Turn all brake blocks OFF, set the free spool rate first, then start with a 2 block setup on the spool brakes, as you loosen the cast control cap up for more distance, reset the blocks adding one. Works for me on my chugbugg rod... Just my .02¢ from the bench. Good Luck & Tight Lines!!! Quote
River Rat 58 Posted June 27, 2008 Posted June 27, 2008 I myself just got a brand new revo S yesterday. Fortunatly my uncle had a couple of just the same thing so he was able to point me out in the right direction. This morning he but everyother one of the break on and i just got familiar with the reel but i wasnt getting the distance i wanted out of it. so today on my own i went down to just two breaks on and I LOVE IT. Thats what i recomend u do good luck Quote
