Evan Pease Posted June 25, 2008 Posted June 25, 2008 Just wondering who palms and who doesnt. I palm 100% of the time. Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted June 25, 2008 Super User Posted June 25, 2008 i've only met 1 guy who doesn't. Quote
Super User Sam Posted June 25, 2008 Super User Posted June 25, 2008 I do it as I believe it gives me more support for the reel when holding the rod and I when setting the hook. It feels uncomfortable not palming the reel. Quote
SimonSays Posted June 25, 2008 Posted June 25, 2008 The pivot point of my BC and rod is right on my BCer, so I palm to get the perfect balance Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted June 25, 2008 Super User Posted June 25, 2008 i've only met 1 guy who doesn't. I hope you can make it to Kentucky Lake next spring, I look forward to meeting you and then you'll know two "non-palmers"! It just doesn't feel right to me, but I'm not at all surprised to be in the minority on this one. 8-) Quote
Big Tom Posted June 25, 2008 Posted June 25, 2008 I palm mine. I have fished with those who don't and it doesn't seem to be that awkward looking. I have huge hands so palming just about anything isn't hard for me. Quote
tyrius. Posted June 25, 2008 Posted June 25, 2008 I palm my jig/worm combo but don't palm my cranking setup. I should probably vote Yay then because I use the jig combo MUCH more than my cranking one. Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted June 25, 2008 Super User Posted June 25, 2008 i've only met 1 guy who doesn't. I never have and I also do not lay any finger across the line. Just my preference. Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted June 25, 2008 Super User Posted June 25, 2008 i dont even know how to not palm a reel LOL! do you hold it by the handle and the trigger when you're fishing? that just seems rediculous! ;D i palm all the time, couldnt imagine doing it differently. i also lay my finger under the level wind so that the line lays ontop of my finger. IT REALLY DOES HELP DETECT SMALL BITES! Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted June 25, 2008 Super User Posted June 25, 2008 Of course I do! Only weirdos don't! So...How do you palm a spinning reel? : Quote
AnthonyRSS Posted June 25, 2008 Posted June 25, 2008 Most of the guys I have seen using round reels hold the foregrip and the line. Old school I guess. I have seen Shaw Grigsby do this, and several others. Anthony Quote
Super User firefightn15 Posted June 25, 2008 Super User Posted June 25, 2008 Palm it. 3 fingers forward of the trigger on bc. Quote
billbrum Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 Bass fishing I always palm the reel. But when I am muskie fishing I hold it by the foregrip...I seem to get more leverage on the hookset. Quote
skillet Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 Always have so it would be really awkward to try the other way... As Ever, skillet Quote
Super User Catt Posted June 26, 2008 Super User Posted June 26, 2008 Palm; 2 finger in front of the trigger, two fingers behind the trigger and my thumb on top of the reel. Quote
TournyFish001 Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 Of course I do! Only weirdos don't! So...How do you palm a spinning reel? : Do you grab your spinning reel with your hand behind the reel support- that would be like not palming a baitcaster. I always palm I think it is easier to get into hookset mode plus its more balanced. Quote
