My birthday is coming up and my dad said he would take me to Green Top to choose a new casting reel and rod. I use older gear that has been handed down to me and I was wondering what you all with more experience with newer tackle would suggest for a nice 7' rod and reel mostly for jigging and plastics.

If money isn't an object here then you are one lucky dude. I dont even know what i would get if i had a limitless budget for one rod and one reel.   If your looking for a jig and worm rod then i think the "G Loomis Mossyback Jig and Worm rod" would be in order-http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/links/link.jsp?id=0042625121792a&type=product&cmCat=SEARCH&returnPage=search-results1.jsp&QueryText=mossyback&N=4887&Ntk=Products&Ntx=mode+matchall&Nty=1&Ntt=mossyback&noImage=0

As for a reel i don't think you can go wrong with either an STX or a Curado. Good luck.
