FishingJames Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 My birthday is coming up and my dad said he would take me to Green Top to choose a new casting reel and rod. I use older gear that has been handed down to me and I was wondering what you all with more experience with newer tackle would suggest for a nice 7' rod and reel mostly for jigging and plastics. skillet Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 Would be helpful to know what kind of price range... If we are talking "money is no object" welllllllll have I got the set up for you ... As Ever, skillet Quote
FishingJames Posted June 24, 2008 Author Posted June 24, 2008 Haha, yeah, that is the case here. Quote
Jake P Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 If money isn't an object here then you are one lucky dude. I dont even know what i would get if i had a limitless budget for one rod and one reel. If your looking for a jig and worm rod then i think the "G Loomis Mossyback Jig and Worm rod" would be in order-http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/links/link.jsp?id=0042625121792a&type=product&cmCat=SEARCH&returnPage=search-results1.jsp&QueryText=mossyback&N=4887&Ntk=Products&Ntx=mode+matchall&Nty=1&Ntt=mossyback&noImage=0 As for a reel i don't think you can go wrong with either an STX or a Curado. Good luck. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted June 24, 2008 Super User Posted June 24, 2008 G. Loomis GLX MBR844C matched to a Shimano Core 100MG or Chronarch CH50MG. 8-) Quote
FishingJames Posted June 24, 2008 Author Posted June 24, 2008 So I guess G. Loomis is the way to go for more high quality rods? Those reels are nice...it will be a hard choice. Thanks for all the help! Quote
Trevor in Burke Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 dude if money is not an issue then... this is my go to combo, it's THE lightest combination I know of and it's well... amazing. Super User FishTank Posted June 25, 2008 Super User Posted June 25, 2008 Shimano Core and a Loomis BCR803 would be my setup of choice for soft plastic and jigs. Quote
