I was watching the Bluegrass Brawl on saturday where everybody was crankbaiting.  They showed Kevin Vandam's rod and how it is made for crankbaits with the soft tip and bend.  Can you buy that anywhere and if not what is a good rod for big crankbaits.  Thank you everyone

Look for a rod with a moderate action.  Some prefer a mod-fast.  The effect of a mod or mod-fast is that the rod has a softer backbone, not weaker, just softer.  A softer rod is less likely to pull treble hooks out and is less strenuous on the angler pulling the deep diving cranks.

Almost every crankbait rod, whether glass or graphite, is mod or mod-fast.

Just about every brand makes a cranking rod or a line-up of cranking rods.

Consider the graphite.

It is supposed to tansmit the feel of the bait and bites to you much better than a glass rod.

Just food for thought.  :P

I just picked up the KVD Quantum Bait Casting rod last night. The longest one they make Currently is 7 ft., and that's what I went with. In the gear report that you are talking about, they said that the rod that KVD was using was 8 ft., and that KVD had Quantum make it especially for that tourny. So, no, I do not think that you can buy that rod, yet.
