Braid leader

I like fishing, I use various baits, but I do not have multiple rods and reels. So I dont have one rod with braid, one with mono, one for spinning, etc. I have 10lb mono and I am going to a spot this weekend with a lot of lilly pads. I know if I hook a nice bass I will most likely lose it to a line break. I don't want to replace my entire spool of line for this one occasion, especially since I just put on the mono last weekend. So my question is should I put on a 5 or 10 foot braid leader on my line for this one application or take my chances with the mono?

that would be unnecessary. doing that would only give you advantage if the fish is closer than 5-10 feet (assuming thats how much you put on). otherwise, if the line was gonna break, it would break at the mono-braid knot.

you should just spool all the way up with braid, you'll like it i promise

I agree with dsaavedra. Fill your spool with braid and you won't be dissapointed. If your fishing somewhere with clear water you can always give the braid a 3-5ft fluro or mono leader.

any particular brand better then the rest if I do respool with braid?  What pound test should I go with?

Anywhere from 30-50lb. powerpro is on most of my reels. Also, you don't need to have a full spool of braid. You can just put on about 150 yds. of braid tied to the appropriate amount of mono backing. You will never even have close to 150 yards of line off your reel at once and it is cheaper this way.

If you have a spare spool for your spinning reel just leave one spooled with the 10# mono and spool the other with braid.  

I personally use 30# suffic on my stradic 2500, and have the other spool filled with 10# Gamma co-poly.

I still think you will be fine in Lilys with the mono. Set your drag appropriatly and you wont have a problem. Now if you were pitching into trees then that would be different.

BUT braid certainly won't hurt. If it s a baitcaster, i would go with 50lb, its more manageable than 30lb and use Sufix or Power pro. I have switched from PP to Sufix but they are both good.

If you have a spinning reel with a spare spool, then put 30lb sufix on the spare and you are good to go.

i agree...no need to change the line if its for a one off.

but if you do, i think sufix is the best braid out there now... i have been using PowerPro for years on my musky fishing and have now changed all my reels that have braid to the Sufix...for both bass and musky.

if your reel has large capacity, keep some of the mono on as backing to the braid...no need to fill the entire reel with expensive braid.
