I've decided to switch to a different kind of line and I could really use some advice. I've been using Cajun Red. Thinking of switching to something braided/Fireline/Spiderwire, etc. on a 6.5 foot G. Loomis MBR783C Hvy/Fast and a 7 foot Fenwick Venture IM6. Fishing mainly for LM bass in small, generally stained lakes in N.E. Ohio.

I have read all the the articles online but they don't seem to be specific enough. Anybody got any recommendations? They would be very much appreciated.

I think that your gonna find it hard to choose based on everyones opinion. They generally all have qualities that are similar, and one guy is gonna tell you why he likes this one or that, and the next is gonna tell you why he don't. I asked of my self the same question, read as much on this forum as I could and ended up at square one for choices. But I did get an education on braid application. I ended up with power pro 30# test with and 8# mono dia equiv. And I like it.

Hope you find the one that fits your pistol. Good luck to ya!

As for braid ive been using it for sometime now... PowerPro in the 100lb range (musky) and 30lb for bass. PowerPro is a good line, fairly limp, good casting, and tough. One issue is that it bleeds the colour (fade). I have only noticed line fading colour, while Ive heard others complain it left some green tint to the hands.

Ive jus started using the Sufix and so far I believe this is a better line, if only marginally. It is rounder which makes for better spooling.

The 2 that are far superior to any others are Sufix and Power Pro. Stay away from Fireline.

I have switched from PP to Sufix but both are good. For baitcaster, 50lb has been much better than 30 for me.  20 and 30 works well for spinning gear.

why are you switching?

if you must use braid, anything under 30lb and i have had hastles w/ professional overuns.

and power pro is my brand of choice, but only when i have to use braid, and that is only in heavy cover flipping and throwing toad.  other than that, and 12lb trilene big game unless i want the bait down and then its fluorocarbon of the vanish flavor.

I had some Trilene Fluro but it didn't cast well for me.  So now I'm using the rest of that spool on Crig leaders.  I hope I just had a bad batch be/c with that line you could literally put your reel on a broomstick and if a fish even mouths the bait it feels like a slam.

Well, we'd really need more info.  Do you fish rocks at all?  Or anything else that causes a lot of abrasion (mussel shells, etc)?  If so, stay away from braid.  Terrible abrasion resistance.

I only use braid when fishing weeds (toads, worms, jigs, etc).
