surfer Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 Dont overlook the Shimano Crucial, 129.99$, i think it is strong competition among the others listed. The avid is 170$. +1 I am very pleased with my crucial too. Quote
Pencil Pusher Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 Falcon Cara T7. Great rods for the money. Quote
Super User islandbass Posted June 4, 2008 Super User Posted June 4, 2008 Dont overlook the Shimano Crucial, 129.99$, i think it is strong competition among the others listed. The avid is 170$. X2 on the Crucial. Best val;ue in the price range. I own five of them, and they are great. Avid is really nice but a different price point. I third this motion. At its 129-139 dollar price, the crucial cannot be beat. excellent graphite, alconite guide, lifetime warranty, it is very tough to beat at that price. Someone at TT weighed the Alconites and was surprised they actually weighed less (albeit not by much) than the Sics. Sics of course are nicer, but thought it might be some good info for the weight weenies. ;D Quote
Todd Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 I really like my carrot stixs (that doesn't look right plural...hmmm) ...but I still haven't tried the avids. I have to say that I picked one up at the store the other day and it was very very light too. I'd just go to a nice tackle store where you can look at all of your options and take them to the counter and ask them if you can put your reel of choice on the rods and see which feels the best to you. Also...Not sure if you have a specific reason for wanting a 6'6" rod, but you will notice a substantial difference in casting distance with 7' or 7'3". Just my two cents. Quote
NJAngler609 Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 Out of my six G.Loomis rods, two are GL2 and I love them. I am one of the few that likes the GL2 and thinks they are worth the money. But, I got to fish the Powell 683C(6' 8" MH extra-fast) today. I have to say that rod gave my G.Loomis MBR783C IMX a serious run. For $170, I am going to look seriously at getting one. I fished it with shaky jig/worm, t-rig, shallow cranks, spinnerbaits, and small swimbaits. The Powell casted and handled all of these well. A great all-purpose rod. im with you i like the GL series...have a gl3 and absolutely love it Quote
Pond Hopper Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 Carrot stick, I have and have fished with alot of rods in that price range and have yet to find one more sensitive and that light. Quote
UBA Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 I like the St. Croix Avids but the Shimano crucial is also a good choice. Quote
