Mono

Do any of you prefer mono over the other types of line and if you do , what are your reasons ?

With the exception of mono on my jerkbait/lipless crank rod for a little more give, mono is a thing of the past for me.

I still fish it more than the floro. If you can find it try Berkley Big Game in green.

i only fish stren original.  i like the stretch in mono better than other lines.  I used to use ironsilk but kept having the line pop when i cast.  I still don't like any fluoro because it springs off the reetl creating a mess.  Braid is only good for flipping.  

I almost bought some of that new Trilene fluoro, but then realized that it is marketed as "smoothest casting fluoro".  I wish that someone would create a fluoro that would say "casts as smooth as mono".  that would sell.

I used to use mono only for soft jerk shads, but now that I have finally found a flourocarbon that I cast without backlashes, I no longer use mono for anything.  I used mono for the jerk shads because I liked the softer action of the bait using mono.  I tried fishing them with braid, but the action of the bait was too crisp, didn't look natural to me.

You need to expand your horizons some. I use braid for lipless cranks in vegetation, for jigs and Tx rigging worms and other soft plastics when  flipping, pitching and casting, for wacky rigging worms on baitcasting and spinning gear, for topwater poppers, for floating and swimming frogs, for deep drop shotting, for spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, etc., and several other presentations.

Reasons, no or very low stretch for better hook ups for deep fishing, long casts or large hooks, no snarls with spinning gear, small diameter/pound test, high strength with small diameter for fishing heavy cover with any presentation. These are just some of numerous good qualities.

I prefer mono.  I like the type of lines others hate.  Memory doesn't bother me on baitcasters and I prefer extreme abrasion resistance and I get this in the new Berkley XT.  I may try P-Line CXX sometime too.  XT doesn't feel as stretchy to me and I like that vs XL.  I'm just not a braid fan, never have been really but I do keep one rig spooled with 12/50 Power Pro that I might use now and then if I'm having trouble feeling something out in deep water.  I also use that same rig for pitching pads on occasion.

I am going to try the new Berkley 100% flouro on my finesse rig and see how I lie it.

Life is GOOD! Mono is great if you change your line often. I still use 4lb XT on my ultralite rigs. Buy it in bulk and it is very cheap. As I see it, you can move up to copolymers and braid for more $ and change your line less often or stick with low priced mono. It's cheap enough to change it nearly every time you go out. It's awesome to have a choice. JMHO

my best advice for mono is to can it and switch to braid!
