Just wondering if Quantum will do any other promotional adds for there reels since yesterday was there deadline. I wonder if they will extend it or just not do anything. People bought a lot of Quantum reels cause of those rebates.

I don't kow anything about marketing tactics, but if quantum was looking to get a few of them reels out there looking for good reports in the baitcasting world, they sure got my vote.  I just can't find anything about them that's not spot on for me.

Some, I believe have an issue with overall size and the weight, but they are also the guys that, from what I read, are getting out and fishing for alot longer periods of time than me.

Cabelas has the Energy PT on sale for $99.99 and the Tour Edition for $129.99

For those who recently bought a Tour Edition reel for $240 to see them going for $130 has got to be like a punch in the head

Uhhh yeah, so I just about threw up. I got my Tour Edition less than a month ago for $240.  :'( :'( :'( :'( >:)

I just bought two Energys for $179 less $50 rebate for a net cost of $129 each last month.

A local tackle store had the Tour Edition on sale for $129 starting last Thursday so you would have been able to get the rebate as well for an $80 net cost.  It was hard for me to not buy one, but I have 3 energys and I want to get a Zillion or Chronarch next.  I love my Quantums, I just want to try something different.

It's only a "good deal" if it's a good reel.

RW that's a pretty harsh comment. I have to ask have you ever used one? For $100 that's a heck of a reel. Sure they might be heavier but they are still a very nice reel.

I tend to agree with RW about Quantums, but I haven't really fished their stuff that much, and we all know that whatever works best for you is what works best for you. If you enjoy a reel, that's all that matters.

I'm not impressed with them at any price either.  Just my preferance.

I am really enjoying the Citicas I got recently, but I still love my Quantums. I can't explain it, but for me they are the best in my hands. I am hoping that Quantum has taken a cue from Shimano and Abu, and bring out some lighter and smaller(just slightly for me) reels. I am looking forward to ICAST to see their new stuff.

What is ICAST?? :-?

I have always thought Quantum made good reels. Just always found something else I liked a little better is all. Only own one Quantum reel and it's 12 years old now. An old EX250, 2 bearing baitcaster, bought at Wal-Mart way back when for $50. Still using it today though.  It doesn't have 12 years of use on it though, for a long time it sat in a drawer at home.  Just this year and last year after about 5 years down, I got it out and have began catching bass on it again.

I picked up a couple of Quantum Tour Edition reels from my local Cabelas and will be putting them through the ringer.  I've talked with fellow tackle reviewers on Tackle Tour and the consensus is that Quantum has come a long way in the past few years, and this is an exceptional buy.  We'll see.  I refuse to conform to one or more brands solely message board statements.  Actually; judging by members that have actually used them, they get favorable reviews.  Look for a review in about a month.  In the mean time, here is Tackle Tour's review...

.

It is a meeting of fishing industry companies along with media participation.  The companies unveil their newest creations for the upcoming year and take massive orders from retailers.

Its basically the Detroit Auto Show of fishing.

i wonder why they dropped the prices like this on those tour editions and the PT series. Do you think people are not buying as much with the economy the way it is?

Posted

I think the reasoning for dropping prices is the same as Shimanos dropping, new models after ICAST. Other than the Code, Incyte and saltwater stuff, Quantum hasn't released anything really new since the Tour Edition PT in 06. I am betting that we are going to see a revamped Energy and Tour Edition that is smaller and lighter. I think the Code was an experiment for them, to see how we would respond to the smaller reel(although not as small as a Revo or Curado 100).

I really like the size of the Code. I have 2 of them and they are very palmable and sit just perfect on any rod. If Quantum makes a PT similar to the Code, I will be all over it. Unless I get a couple of Revos this summer :)

so here is something for you to think about i called Tackle Warehouse yesterday cause i was gonna order a couple of the reels that were on sale and they was sold out completly so i call and ask when they are going to be getting some more in. And they told me that they would not be getting anymore in that they must be discontinuing that line of reels the PT and the Tour. So my thing is why havent we heard about the new ones? Can anyone shed any light on this?

Because they aren't Shimano's and no body is wetting their pants because a new one is coming out.

I have to ask the question; if the Shimanos are the epitome of reels, then why have they discontinued a two year old design(D model Curado and Citica) and are now creating new models for 08? Could it be that they cannot compete with the Revo?

In my personal experience there is no competition when it came to my preference. I owned and fished both a Citica and a Revo S. The Revo may have had more drag pressure and bearings...BUT the Citica felt more solid and my casting distance increased. In the end....the Revo S was sold. Again just my thoughts, not the thoughts of all.

It's called Consumerism. They come out with "new" "better" models every so often and people decide they have to have the new, better version, and end up giving more money to Shimano. It's the same reason car companies redesign their most popular cars every year.
