Spinning reels for Swimbaits?

So i was fishing with a buddy and i was fishing the mattlures baby bass and i had caught a couple decent fish.  I use my revo stx when fishing them and my buddy doesnt have a baitcaster or the rod to handle the lure.  He has a spinningrod that he uses for catfishing and was wondering if he could use that to fish swimbaits.  Is there any negatives to using a spinning reel vs baitcaster?

I fish smaller swimbaits with spinning gear and they work great.Any swimbait under 4'' I use spinning gear with,I just like it better I gives me more feel

the mattlures are 5" and 1.25 oz they arent really small

Fish Chris uses spinning tackle exclusively. That should speak for itself.

If you want to still fish with spinning gear with a lure that size you are going to have to beef up your gear.A 7' mh rod with a fast tip and a reel with a big spool should get the job done. If your fishing with hard swimbaits then I would go with a baitcaster

Spining gear works for me.  These big lures are wearing me out though.  I need a lighter rod.
