Citron Posted May 30, 2008 Posted May 30, 2008 I am in the market for a new baitcasting reel and was hoping for some advice. Last year I purchased a cheap Daiwa baitcasting reel and hated every second of it. I just did not take the time to learn how to use it and almost threw it in the trash. This year I decided to give it another try and I'm totally hooked. I love baitcasting reels now ... just needed to get over that learning curve. Anyways it is time to replace one of my spinning reels with another baitcaster and was hoping for some input on witch to buy. I have decided upon one of three reels and want to know from people who my already own them how they stack up and if maybe I overlooked one. Here are the three I am looking at ... Team Daiwa Viento Abu Garcia Revo STX Shimano Curado I have read elsewhere on the Internet people stating that each of these are the "best reel they have ever owned". Anyone out there with one or more of these that can weigh in here? Thanks a million. Quote
Redsyn Posted May 30, 2008 Posted May 30, 2008 What kind of baits are you planning to throw w/ it? What size of line are you going to use? Quote
Citron Posted May 30, 2008 Author Posted May 30, 2008 Mostly 5 to 7 inch worms Bass fishing ... 6-8lb line. Quote
Uncle Leo Posted May 30, 2008 Posted May 30, 2008 I own both the Revo and Curado. For throwing most everything I perfer the Curado 100D over the Revo. Quote
calandra Posted May 30, 2008 Posted May 30, 2008 I own both the Abu Garcia Revo STX and the Shimano Curado. There both very good reels IMO. I do however find myself picking up the Revo more and more these days; in fact I may just replace all my bait casters with the Revo. Can[ch8217]t help you on the Team Daiwa for I have never owned one. Quote
Citron Posted May 30, 2008 Author Posted May 30, 2008 Anyone out there with the Daiwa? I am very interested in the Twitchin' Bar. Does anyone actually use it or is it just a piece of junk? Quote
Redsyn Posted May 30, 2008 Posted May 30, 2008 In the daiwa line of reels I dont think I would choose the viento in that price range. The twitching bar sounds like a good idea but if you think about it your reeling hand has to be off the handle to use the twitching bar. If you feel a bite you have to fumble around trying to find the handle, reel in the slack then set the hook. I'd rather get the fuego or sol or even the advantage supertuned for cheaper. I too was looking into curado and stx but I think i'm going to wait and see the new model curado. I have other reels to use so I'll just wait 2 more months before making a decision. Quote
lubina Posted May 30, 2008 Posted May 30, 2008 In the daiwa line of reels I dont think I would choose the viento in that price range. Same. Daiwa Advantage HSTA or Revo STX on that price range Quote
Super User burleytog Posted May 30, 2008 Super User Posted May 30, 2008 STX since you would be hard pressed to find a new Curado. Quote
Bassaholic84 Posted May 30, 2008 Posted May 30, 2008 I have the Team Daiwa Advantage HtSA supertuned and the revo stx and i definetly prefer the revo over the daiwa. You can get the stx off ebay new for 160 and thats the same price i paid for my advantage both are great reels but i prefer the revo and the drag is sick. Quote
Super User FishTank Posted May 30, 2008 Super User Posted May 30, 2008 If you got a couple of extra bucks I would take a look at the Daiwa Zillion. Simply a great real, easy to use and easy to cast. Quote
