The local store is clearing out certain Rapala's. All the Rapala 'trap knock offs are one of the bait's along with Husky jerks, deep down husky jerks, and original floaters. Anything on the list worth picking up???

I have no experience with Deep Husky Jerk, but the other three are very good lures.

I like their trap better than the original because of the hooks it comes with. Whenever I bought an original trap, first thing I would do is change those saltwater type hooks on it, but the ones are the Rapala's are fine. Plus the Rapalas are cheap and pretty much do the same thing as a $14 dollar lucky craft lipless crankbait.

I like the Original Floaters.....none of the others I care for very much.

Out of about 25 different lipless cranks I've had experience fishing with, Rapala's version is about my LEAST favorite.   YMMV as usual.   :P

That was my experience with them.....compared to a Spot, they aren't lively at all, and require a lot of speed to get any movement.

I've used and would recommend the first 3. I have not yet fished with the deep down HJ.

Contrary to the experiences of those here, all of my bass caught on a rattle trap type bait were caught on a Rattlin' Rapala. As a matter of fact, The original Bill lewis Rattle Trap hasn't worked for me yet, but I want it to!! ::P

I would agree that they might take a little more effort to get to work compared to others, but it is the only trap the bass in my area find most appealing.

I'm going to guess that the only reason they are clearing out the original floater is because they are sold everywhere.

Trust me.......there is a reason for this.  Those of us who keep things simple by only fishing a few lures, very often include the

F11 silver/black rapala in their arsenal.

I have caught fish on the husky jerk as well, but the x-rap gets all the hype so no doubt the sales.

I have to agree with the nay sayers about the rattler.  Not effective for me.

I wish I could get a "deal" on those! I'd have to start with the regular Husky Jerks though. They kill the smallies in spring and fall in my neck of the woods. I haven't had much success with "deep" version however. Probably because smallies don't hesistate to come up for the shallow models. The "Rattlin' Rap" is as good or better than any "Rattle Trap" on the shelf.

Well, at $1.99 each, I was willing to pick up a selection of Rattlin' Rapala's like bone, Bluegill, gold, ect...

The others are still over $5 each, so I had much more restraint. I only got a gold and a glass minnow HJ #12's to add to the collection of 2 I already had.  No floating ones...yet. I got to thinking that the suggestion of the #11 silver/black was a pretty good one, so I think I'm going to pick up a couple different floaters later this week.

I agree with Stringjam - I don't like RR's either - have three, never caught anything for me. My favorite is the old Hot Spot, the ones without the bb's. These more or less "knock" than rattle, like today's baits. Plus i know that probabally nobody else uses them anymore. Advantage-me. Sorry.

I wish Rapala would come out with a Trap more on their "old school" approach.

I would be all over a foil-finished BALSA trap with a slow sink rate and no rattles.  Perhaps it wouldn't sell all that great, since most people have a certain idea of how a "Rattle Trap" is supposed to function - - but one of my most successful lipless cranks (Air Viper Risebacker) has no rattles, and a very slow sink rate....making it great for throwing around shallow cover and during times when more finesse is required.

Yes indeed - - btw, that "male gill" color is one of my favs!..... :)

It is my understanding that Risebackers are out of production, however.   :P

The Rattlin Rapalas outproduce the Rat-L-Traps 10 to 1 for me. The Lake St. Clair smallies love the Raps. My best colors are the crome/blue and red crawdad.
