I have an Extreme going to a guy here, I like this reel, I have never used it.The guy who donated it said he has 4 of them and really enjoys using them.

Bassmaster Mag had an article this month on best equipment without breaking the bank. Both the Extreme and Okuma (i believe) were listed in that article. Good luck!

I have 4 of the extreme spinning combos. They are worth twice the price. The reels are very smooth, the mag spool allows for great distance, and I tested the drag on a 25 pound redfish on 12 pound line. The drag performed perfectly. Plus they are on sale for $39!!!Thats a steel IMO.

I like the Extremes they are a great value and durable too. They are not too heavy either. Not the smoothest reel made but for under $100 what do you expect. I am sure the Pfluegers are good too my father has a couple and they seem on par with other reels in the price range. I have never used my dads though I am a lefty and he is a righty.

I have a Cardinal 301 and I love it! It is an awesome little spinning reel. It casts like a dream, has plenty of drag, and is smooth. I would recommend it to anyone.

I just recently bought two of the Trion GX-7 reels. A 4735 and 4730. Really put the 4730 to the test over the last two days. Matched it with a BPS Micro Lite 7' UL rod,  and 6 lb. Trilene XL. Yesterday I caught BIG redears on teeny crankbaits until my arm was sore. Also landed three bass in the 2 lb. range. This morning another 2 lb.'er and it hasn't strained at any of 'em. The only problem I noticed with it was that it didn't cast the light stuff well until I matched it to the UL rod.

The 4735 has 8 lb. on it and I've landed a couple of nice 3 lb.'ers on it so far. No problems there either. Both are nice smooth operating reels with a nice smooth drag system on each. I'll be heading out in a few minutes to try them on some hybrids and hopefully a few more bass. Oh yea, I'm a bank fisherman too.

I have never used any of those reels but, i have used the Cardinal 503 which is a step up from the 300's. I liked it alot and it is on sale for 54.99$ right now on BPS.com.A few things i like alot about it is the bail is very thick and its smooth. Its a great looking reel, heres the link incase you want to check it out.

Why do most of your choices have so much line capacity? Unless you are fishig for huge fish that are making long runs you don't need it.

I'd scratch the Mitchel, the Shakespere and the Quantum in this price range for sure. The Pflueger is maybe my #1 choice based on the other Pfluegers I own. Abu's Cardinal reels look pretty decent lately.

Their are several choices in your price range better than what you've posted but as you said you don't want to hear about them.

I fish Pflueger spinning reels almost exclusively. I have a Supreme, President, and a Trion. Hard to beat those reels, IMO. I also have 2 Okuma Metaloids that are pretty darn nice too. Were I to have to pick one as my favorite, I'd say the Supreme, then the President. Just my thoughts.

I forgot to mention, I may fish for carp once in a while with this reel as well...

I am not someone who buys, expensive rod/reels since I usually beat them up/break them lol

I am looking for something that will last some time for my self and so that when I do buy another reel, I can pass this one on to someone else.

Your not going to find a cheap reel that you can "beat up" and still pass it on as a functional reel. If your tough on reels then you need to opt for something more expensive that will last longer.

Man are you gonna be mad because this reel is not on your list- but you can buy it on ebay for $55 brand new and it is smooth as butter with 10bb... The Pflueger President 6740... takes 6-8- and 10 lb. test line....

x2 but a 6740 series is an awfully big reel

Well, you have it backwards. Higher end reels will take all the abuse you can dish out as long as you service them occasionally (cleaning & lube). I have a 7 year old Shimano CTE200GT that I use on my jig rod, but it has mostly been used for striper fishing on the Tennessee River. The reel is as good or better today then when I took it out of the box.  Unless I drop it in the drink and lose the reel, it will last a

lifetime.
