coolhandlala Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 I have always had mono on my baitcaster and would like try braid or superline. Are there any that are better, or some to stay away from? Quote
d.hark Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 Cant go wrong with PowerPro of Sufix performance braid. Those are considered the 2 best. There are alot of people that like fireline too Quote
hawgchaser Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 I use power pro and just put sufis on one of my spinning reels. I like them both. I tried fireline and can't believe anyone would choose that line over the other two. That stuff was terrible IMO. Quote
Georgia Jeff Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 I just purchased some PowerPro 20lb braid. I tried braid a few years back and hated it. However, I am loving it now. It casts as far or further than mono, doesn't stretch which equals more sensitivity, and doesn't build memory. I was having a hard time setting the hook on far casts with mono on my medium light rod. The braid fixed that. I can still cast weightless plastics a mile with the medium light rod but now I can hook them every time due to the low stretch. Quote

I tried using fireline crystal in 20lb test on my baitcaster once... waste of 15 dollars or so... all that happened was that it kept digging into the spool over and over and i got mad and cut it all off the first day i used it... BrockSamson Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 Sufix and PowerPro are the way to go. Spiderwire ain't too bad either. Fireline was the only stuff I didn't like. Quote
Masshole Mike Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 i've only used powerpro on spinning tackle, and suffix on casting tackle, but i liked the suffix much more than the powerpro. powerpro seems stiff to me when you first spool it up, and seems to take a 'breaking in' period before it really loosens up. suffix was super limp and cast great right out of the box. but like i said, i've used only the suffix on baitcasters, not the powerpro, so my opinion is somewhat skewed. though after using the suffix, i don't think i'll go back to powerpro on any of my reels. Todd Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 I have been using spiderwire stealth 50Lb on some of my heavier rigs, but just got some suffix 20Lb for lighter work. Tried it out for the first time last night and loved it. I hooked a small one on the edge of a beaver dam and pulled some serious brush back with the fish! I just started using braid this year, so some of the other guys here may correct me, but with my baitcasting gear I sometimes have to "lob" the cast to get the distance...i.e. can't just fire it out there as hard/quick as I can. I'm not saying the distance is shorter, just a different cast...slower/smoother motion. Has anybody else experienced that? Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted May 15, 2008 Super User Posted May 15, 2008 I fish Sufix or Prower pro. If I had to choose between the two it would be Sufix. Quote

Try it I think you will liike it. Quote
