ghost Posted April 26, 2008 Posted April 26, 2008 Since it has floro in its mix, does this line float? Can I use this line for topwater fishing? Quote
=Matt 5.0= Posted April 26, 2008 Posted April 26, 2008 No it doesn't float, it sinks...as does flouro. I've used it for moving topwater baits like Jitterbugs and Spooks. I still like to stick with mono if the bait is going to be paused, like a popper. Just my preference. HTH Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted April 26, 2008 Super User Posted April 26, 2008 No it doesn't float, it sinks...as does flouro. WRONG! Yo-Zuri Hybrid and Hybrid Ultra Soft both float, all sizes, all colors and in all water. They are not so buoyant that sinking baits are affected, but the line itself floats. Quote
Super User Dan: Posted April 26, 2008 Super User Posted April 26, 2008 yeah, I was fishing pretty heavy current the other day and I noticed that when I had slack in the line, the slack line floated on the top of the water pretty noticeably. Quote

Taken from the Yo Zuri website: "Because of the high density and specific gravity of fluorocarbon, Yo-Zuri HYBRID weighs more than nylon monofilaments. Casting distance is appreciably greater than similar diameter nylon lines because line weight is an integral component in achieving casting distance. Also, the hard, slick finish creates far less resistance as the line runs through the guides." If it weighs more, wouldn't it sink? I'm comparing it to PowerPro so maybe we aren't on the same page. Just seems your initial response was a little hostile. Quote
MyKeyBe Posted April 26, 2008 Posted April 26, 2008 I just performed a highly scientific experement and placed about a foot of 10 lb. orginal hybrid in a bowl of water, it floats. ;D Well for about 5 minutes. Now about half the line is starting to sink slightly (2 coils out of about 5). Quote
ghost Posted April 26, 2008 Author Posted April 26, 2008 So if ultrasoft floats then I can use poppers w/ this line? Ultrasoft will not affect the performance of the popper or say a zara spook? Quote
skillet Posted April 26, 2008 Posted April 26, 2008 Haven't used it for poppers, works great with spooks ... As Ever, skillet BTW really like the line since changing over!! Quote

The line will stay on the surface due to surface tension, but it does sink once it breaks the surface. Quote
Super User Bassn Blvd Posted April 26, 2008 Super User Posted April 26, 2008 I've always heard heavier line gives better action to topwater plugs but I don't know. Just go fishing. Don't make the bass smarter than you. The most important thing to me is, is that my line is properly matched for my rod. I catch bass using 20 pound mono with a zara spook and unsing 8 pound mono with a rapala. make the rod, line, reel and plug match one another and you'll be ok. Quote

A simple, I disagree would have been cool. That backfired. : Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted April 27, 2008 Super User Posted April 27, 2008 Jezz...Grow another layer of skin...it ain't that big a deal... On it's own, Yo-Zuri floats. Does it sink after it is submerged? Well, probably, the Titanic sunk, too. Lighten up! The "general topic" was asking if the line could be used for topwater. The answer is yes, it can be used. : Quote
Super User Dan: Posted April 27, 2008 Super User Posted April 27, 2008 Yeah, that came off a little harsh, rw. Anyway, I never thought about line bouyancy in the terms of surface tension, that's something new to consider. I think YZ Hybrid US would work for almost all occasions, though. I love it for plastics and it has worked very well for me on topwater baits as well. Quote
ghost Posted April 27, 2008 Author Posted April 27, 2008 Thanks DD, that's the answer I was looking for. I have 6 & 8 lb 600 yd spools of clear Ultrasoft ordered from Cabelas. I've used Yozuri Hybrid & I've had no problems w/ topwater w/ that line, I just didn't know if Ultrasoft was similar or different for topwater. Quote
