Been using a spinning rod recently since I broke my Avid Casting rod (st croix ran out of stock on my rod so now I have to wait til mid May....but that's another gripe) ...what's a good reel for around 50-75ish?

also, on a side note, how do you guys deal with line twists with braided line? I get tight knots which are near impossible to get out and once I do the next cast just puts them back in again...

The Shimano Sahara is a great reel for $60.

If your lure is causing the line twist, a ball bearing swivel between your mainline and a leader will help.

PFLUEGER PRESIDENT X6735 60 bucks

x3. Its one smoooooooth reel.

Bass Pro shops extreme is also very good and on sale for $39!!!! I landed a 25 pound redfish on 12 pound test with the extreme reel. I was VERY impressed with, smoothness, castability(has the mag spool) and the drag performed flawlessly.

I don't admit this much, but I own a sahara, bought it a long time ago with my first g loomis, maybe 8 years ago.  Absolutely beat the heck out of it and the rod.  The reel still works just as good today as the day I bought it, never had a mechanical problem with it whatsoever.  The Pflueger president is also a very nice reel for the money.  Although I dont personally own one, I know a lot of guys that do, and all really like them.  Around here you can find a dozen guys on the pier casting with the Pflueger Pres. 6740 or even 6750 for big freshwater salmon, and they consistently keep up with the abuse of 20+ lb fish.  Either of the reels mentioned is a great choice for the price range.  Just my .02 cents.

I a Flooger guy too. The President is a hard reel to beat for the price. The Trion is also a nice reel and even cheaper.

I forgot about the Trion. I actually have one nd really like it. It is smooth and hascaught some pretty mean hybrids. Its a great buy.

Over the winter I bought a Pluegger Pres/Extreme combo and a Shimano Symetre (which at $80 is just over your range).  I like them both but at the same line rating the President is much heavier than the Shimano spinning reels.  That's about the only difference that my uneducated hands have noticed in the couple of outings that I've used them this spring.

The President 6730 (the one I have with a lighter line rating) weighs 9.1 oz but the 6735 weighs 11.2.  The Symetre 2500 weighs 9.5 oz.  The 6730 is on my hard bait spinning setup and the Symetre is my soft plastics.  They both seem to work well for this and I don't have to use the "heavy" 6735.

I have only seen the President in the store and I have a sahara, Go with  the President. I am a shimano Die Hard but I am not hapy with teh Sahara, its is now reduce to my skipping rod. Personally I would save a little more and look into the Saros which is a fatastic reel for the money. I bought one a month ago and I am on my way tomorrow to get another.

Presidents are very nice reels. There's something classy about reeling in a fish with a rosewood handle  :)
