Quantums I've owned.

An IR3 Iron round reel.  Good little reel.  The finish on it wore off worse than most other reels but it was solid.  I've noticed the finish problem with any quantum I owned or sold.

Energy 400.  The plastic drive gear for the level wind had a tooth break.  Only a 4 year old reel and the part was NLA from Quantum.   >:)

Used a Bill Dance Quantum cheapie I was selling to catch my PB 8 1/2 lber.  They were cheap reels.  The spool tension knobs on those were plastic and had a tendency to crack.

I do not have much experience with the old Quantum's, but I personally love the new Accurist. I've only had one for 4-5 months and only one minor issue. It was kinda "rough" out of the package. I took it apart and greased the gears a bit and she is smooth as ever. I'm not a power fisherman so to me it's the perfect combination of price and performance... (I'm referring to the CX, not the PT) $55 shipped to my door...

Also, (in my opinion) it's the perfect size. Smaller than a Trion and a little bigger than a Revo.

i used to be a quantum guy but have not purchased any in about 6 years..i have a few of the old ex501 model baitcasters & i love them but i bought one of the response ti spinning reels & it was one of the worst reels i ever bought...since then i cant trust their quality anymore

Good Quantum reels cost an arm and a leg!  A friend got a discount card from KVD at a fishing seminar which gives him a 50% discount.   He is the only one that I know that can afford the tournament series reels!  And they are heavy as well.  I switched to BPS reels a couple of years ago and am much happier.

I personally love my Quantums(Accurist CXs,PTs, and PTS). I have had no problems at all with these reels. Now that I have switched to LH crank, I am using Revos, but will be getting some LH Quantums. I do find it odd how disliked Quantum is on this forum. They have alot of pros on their staff that I look up to and respect, both Bass and Saltwater. I can't believe that they would sign on for inferior products. KVD has been with them for a very long time, and always speaks about how happy he is with Quantum.

It's a biiiiiig check :)

well, 4 pages and 2 approvals, 1 from someone who previously worked for the company.  So I'm not seeing things, it isn't just me, good to know, lol.

As for "the forum" not liking the reels, it has nothing to do with the forum, these are replies from actual fisherman,...grass roots raw info.  I thought it might just be something I've noticed via the lack of Quantum traffic but from reading these pages, it seems it's a lot more than that.

I have had several of the accurist BC's several of the PTI spincasters and 2 of the Tour BC's. I was happy with all of them though I did have a few warranty claims on the accurists.

That is until I just took delivery on my Revo PM and SX. Not to say there is anything wrong with the Quantum but there is just no comparison to the Revo's smoothness, castability, and ability to fight a fish on the same rod. Awesome product

This year I upgraded to a Quantum Energy PT which I used for the first week of the season.  One week after I got the Energy I picked up a Revo Premier for a steal on Ebay.  Within hours I had a STX on it's way to my house and the Energy up for sale.

I have 4 quantums that i got early this year (2 codes, 2 accurist) and i love em, they perform as well as my curado's and my TD's, codes feel odd at first, but they make you love them!

I have 7 Energy PT's, 5 cast, 2 spin, that I use all the time. I've never had a problem with any of them.

The only complaint I have is the brake adjustment on the baitcasters. it hard to change with wet cold hands. It's too smooth to get a grip on in those conditions. But, it's comfortable in the palm. A trade-off I can live with.

So, they're a little heavier than most others. When I get to the point in life where a 10oz reel is more than I can handle, I'll take up a less strenous sport; like knitting or needlepoint.

I've also had several other Quantum reels before these. The only real piece of junk from Quantum I had was a hypercast spinning reel. I let a buddy of mine talk me into it. Last time I listened to him about gear.

I don't know where the bad rap comes from. I'm happy with mine.

Cheers,

GK

;D  Lol, I love it.  Same way I feel about the weight issue.

I have 2 Quantums, one Energy PT (fairly new bought used) and an old Bill Dance signature model.  Burley makes fun of this reel all the time and all I have to do is remind him that reel pulled in one fish that was twice as big as any he has ever put in the boat.  I also have Shimano's but I consider myself part of the Daiwa posse.

I have a few of everything and my Quantums are as good as any of the others. There is a lot of reaction from the Shimano Posse that makes one wonder as to why respond on a Quantum question.

I feel that Shimano is over hyped and over priced. When they came out with the new version of Curado with what appeared to be a very modest redesign/improvement and a 67% price increase. I wrote them off my list.

Now will the posse please be gentle in response!!!

No.

I have followed this thread for five pages

with hardly a peep from the Shimano guys.

The question is:

Why did YOU diss Shimano on a Quantum thread? ::)

Let's stay on topic and I suspect the posse will

keep their distance.

8-)

Same problem with the Quantums as other posters. Reliability. Havent bought a Quantum in 5yrs. I was tempted at BPS to get the Burner for 139 after rebate and reel trade-in, but decided to pass and buy a Shimano. I would consider buying an Abu or Daiwa in the future, but I will never buy a Quantum again.  I guess I am a proud member of the Shimano Posse. :)

Respond about what ?  :-?

Aren 't we discussing about Quantum reels ?  ::)

Weeellll, you read my impressions on that Quantum I owned some years ago, better once blush than a thousand pale afterwards.

You feel Shimanos are overpriced and over rated ? ----> don 't buy Shimano and that principle applies to everything.
