You sure don't hear much about Quantum anymore, wondering if the line has gone down hill or why there isn't much chatter regarding their stuff.  I mean, we got posse's for just about every big hitter out there, what happened to these guys?

They have some big boys on the staff, but here, where we hear from "Joe Public", it seems there aren't many Quantum users.  Don't get me wrong, they're here, but certainly not in force like Shimano, Abu, Pflueger, Daiwa, etc

I don't remember hearing anything bad about Quantum. I think it may be due to lack of advertising or that they haven't come out with anything new lately. (Out of sight, out of mind.)

Their was a fairly recent thread about Quantums. You are right though Russ. It seemed more like a Bandito's than a Posse LOL.

Fluke I gotta disagree about the advertising. They are all over the place advertising in my opinion, magazines fishng shows. Geez they've got Vandam and Dance ( and I think Shaw?). You can't ask for much more than that for heavy hitters. Its doesn't appear to be working though.

I agree big time on the lack of something new though.

Yea, I forgot about KVD. One thing that I have noticed is as the other companies have gone to smaller, lower profile baitcasters but they have continued to make the larger ones. It's like the baitcaster is evolving and they got stuck somewhere.

I hadn't had used any Quantum gear in 10 years until this month. I decided to try them again and bought 2 of their new Code reels and paired them with the ENergy Pt split grip rods. The Code is decent but the rods were a pleasant surprise! I compared them to my Loomis(got laughed at by a few but I can take it :)) Those rods are an absolute steel for $100 plus a lifetime Warranty.

But agree there isn't much interest. I posted 2 threads about the new Quantum gear and only got 5 or 6 responses. Any other review of new gear would probably have gotten several pages. Its obvious that there isn't a whole lot interest.

My last quantum reel was junk so I told myself I would never buy another but decided to give them another shot. So far I am pleased but we will see in the long run.

I thought Quantum was made by the same company that makes "Zebco" products. I guess I assumed they made the lion's share of their $ selling spincasters and such at WallMart. I have an old Quantum Tour edition US300, although it feels tight and stiff when you crank it, it casts like a dream and still fishes great.

I think it's the fact that everybody seems to be into lite rods and reels these days the quantum reels are fairly heavy for instance a pti 20 spinning reel is 10.5 oz the nearest competitor is 1.5 oz lighter. That in my opnion is the only thing wrong w/ them i had a energy pti 20 spinning reel and i loved it  never had a problem the 3 years that i owned it , but it WAS really heavy compare to my pfleuger and shimano reels (it was a full 4.5 oz heaver than the same size pfleuger)

Fading away? Nah....Everytime i turn on a fishing show Quantum is mentioned somewhere. However i do think they need to start looking into a lighter baitcaster to compete with...that's one of my gripe is the weight of those reels.Plus the fact they seem to really pack that factory grease in the reels.

I haven't purchased a Quantum reel in nearly 20 years, but there's a good reason for that.

Around 1990 I was looking at a new quantum reel at Efingers Sport Shop in Bound Brook, NJ.

The salesman there, who was also a good friend of mine, told me in hush tones to stay away from Quantum

because in his words, they had faulty gearing. As tool & die maker, that made no sense to me,

so I went ahead and purchased two new Quantum casting reels for our upcoming trip to Canada.

During my second day with the new reels, I was pumping a trophy-class pike to the boat.

In mid-battle the thumb-bar suddenly lost communication with the reel handle, and the spool refused to engage.

Long story short, I wound-up losing that pike. What's more, before the end of our week-long vacation,

my wife's quantum casting reel also malfunctioned.

Oh yeah, those reels were still under warranty, but I had no interest at all in maintaining ownership in reels with slapdash workmanship.

Instead of a trip back to the manufacturer, both reels made a short trip to the dumpster (two strikes and your OUT).

Quantum is the only reel to make my personal Blacklist. It's a lifetime list that follows the old Indian adage:

"Fool me once, shame on you...Fool me twice, shame on me". So if anyone's surprised about Quantum's loss in popularity,

it wouldn't be me.

Like Roger, I haven 't purchased a Quantum reel in about 20 years, the first models had some like an alien ship which looked appealing to the BaitMonkey so I ended up with one of those early models.

The gearing had a very rough feel, pretty much like if you were sanding, the drag was anything but smooth and locked down frequently, but what marked the end of the reel was that when the pawl broke I couldn 't find the part anywhere. Being in Mexico that meant the reel could not be serviceable and was pretty much as good as waste.

No more Quantums for me.

I have had four Quantums in the past three years.  I had a Tour Edition Baitcaster, 2 Energy Pti-a 20 spinning reels and Shaw Grigsby combo from Dicks.   The Tour Edition worked great for about a year and then one of the drag washers cracked.  One of the Energy pti-a anti reverse stopped working properly and the other I think I just wore out. Both after of them went down after about two years of use. They both worked well and were serviced once.  As for the combo, I sold it to a buddy and he says is still working great (go figure).

I was lucky though, the place where I purchased them were able to exchange them for me.  I have decided to stay away from Quantum.

I read on one thread, either here or in another forum, where KVD blows at least one bearing in a reel each day. Not too bad when your getting new ones but still  :)

Well if the Codes I bought don't hold up, then I won't be too surprised. Honestly, I bought them bc the reels have some great features but was sketpical. Basically I had some extra dough and didn't need anymore rods but what the heck. So far they have worked out well. I have about 100 fish on one combo and 10 on the other. Both setups have been great to fish with BUT only time will tell if the hold up.

BUT the PT rods are fantastic!

I had the exact same problems with the Quantums I bought about 6-7 years ago. I got 4 or 5 from BPS and a few of them had the same issue that you mentioned within just a month or so. I sent them back to BPS and got more reels, they did the same thing. After that I sent them all back and got a different brand. A short time later I was talking to Davy Hite on the phone and we got talking about Pflueger reels and how great they were. I have now been using Pflueger reels since then and I don't have any plans to switch.

I happened to be in a Walmart years ago when the Tour Edition round reels were out.  I tournament fisherman was returning 6 of them around August.  All had some sort of failure.     I'll also agree that if it is true that KVD blows bearings every tournament,  the free new reels still aren't worth the problems.

I believe you are correct about Quantums being made by Zebco. I think the unpopularity of Quantums is for reasons that are being stated, generally, they aren't as high quality as other options. I've also experienced that fact myself in a couple of reels I've had.

I've had problems from every Quantum reel I've ever owned. Spinning reels mainly.

The Zebco family is: Quantum Rhino Martin Cajun Line Fin-Nor Van Staal and they are all part of the W.C. Bradley Co. portfolio...

And no Quantum will never fade away..... :)

I owned a Quantum once-for 3 hours. Not sure why, but I decided I had to have a Quantum Energy spinning reel. Took it out of the box at BPS and it appeared to be working fine, but once I spooled it up and casted with it a few times, the bail would not stay closed. So, I am not a fan of the 'magnetic' bail system, and by default, no longer a fan of any Quantum product. Only reel I have ever had to return....

I didn't even realize Shakespeare had sold the Cajun Line brand. I never noticed it wasn't on any of my paperwork anymore. It is a

good thing I didn't try to order any this year.
