Branuss04 Posted April 13, 2008 Posted April 13, 2008 So I finally broke down and bought a loomis rod, I got the SWBR956C. It is one sweet swimbait stick. I just received it today (It was delivered 1 hour after I left for the lake :'( )Anyway, I took it out of the package, and was admiring it, getting ready to stick a Calcutta on it when I noticed on the first guide, where the frame attaches to the rod, the epoxy is all cracked around it and the guide is all bent. Now I know i didn't snag it while I was taking it out, with a $250 dollar rod, I was handling it with extreme care. So now I don't know what to do, I got it from TW, and sent them an email, but I'm not going to pay loomis $50 for a rod that I received defective, and I'm not going to pay $20 to ship the rod back to TW when they sent me a defective rod in the first place. . Anybody have any ideas, thanks. Quote
ghost Posted April 13, 2008 Posted April 13, 2008 Send it back to TW & get the Okuma Guide Series. A much better swimbait rod that can double easily as a musky/pike rod. It's also a whole lot cheaper. Read the Tackle Tour review & Matt from Mattlures gave great kudos of the Okuma Guide Series on TT. I have the 7'6" heavy, 1-5 oz lure wt, w/ the split grip, very nice & has good sensitivity for a swimbait rod. I guess this could also be used for flipping. Only downside, maybe is it's 1 piece. It's not telescoping either, just a 1 piece blank. I think, you'd have to check the Okuma site or TW that the 7'11" is 1 piece also. Talk to TW & tell them you have a defective rod, I'm sure they will pay the shipping back to them. Quote
The_Natural Posted April 13, 2008 Posted April 13, 2008 Boo on Tackle Warehouse or the shipping company I guess? Will Tackle Warehouse not pay to have it shipped back, or are you just assuming they won't. I would hope a large, profitable company like TW would make it right without any out of pocket expensive. Congrats on the rod; I don't own a swimbait rod, but I held and admired the new Loomis at Cabelas. Beautiful stick... Quote

I also have a feeling that he's upgrading from an Okuma to the Loomis rod, as the Okuma is what most swimbait guys start out with. Branuss, I'm sure TW will gladly pay shipping back. I've had nothing but great customer service from them. Quote
Diablos Posted April 13, 2008 Posted April 13, 2008 Was the package damaged at all where the guide was crushed/broken? Contact TW and tell them the product was broken right out of the box. They may send you a return authorization and try to get their money from the shipping company. I had a $250 broken trolling motor from Bass Pro right out of the box and they sent me a replacement next day air and a return tag with it to send back the broken one. I'm assuming TW has friendly return/replace policy with all the good things I hear about them. Quote
Super User Jimzee Posted April 13, 2008 Super User Posted April 13, 2008 TW will make it right man, they always do. If you had to pay shipping back to them, they will probably give you store credit for later on. Quote

I own both, and the Loomis 955 and 956 are hands down the sweetest off the rack swimbait sticks I have ever held. Quote
Branuss04 Posted April 13, 2008 Author Posted April 13, 2008 Double as a pike/muskie rod?!?!?!?! I live in cali, what would i do with that? Yea, I'm upgrading from the okuma, it was a good stick, but after throwing the hudd and a loomis 956, it was love at first sight. I would assume that a big company like that would do right and not make me pay for shipping. I know it wasn't the shipping company that broke it, because TW sent the rod in a concrete tube. I'm glad to see many of you have had good customer service with them. I'm just bummed that it's sitting here in my living room, looking at me, telling me to use it, and I can't. What a tease!!!! Thanks guys Quote
djmax22 Posted April 13, 2008 Posted April 13, 2008 Mt first loomis rod was defective too. Got out on the boat and and noticed there was several chips in the blank centered around the tip area. I could just see myself breaking it on a hook set. I returned it to BPS and they ordered me a new one. They gave me a little bit of a hassle but I just purchased the rod 2 days ago. Quote

Thanks guys I bought the SABBR965C for double duty for bass swim bait rod and to fish for calico/sand bass out here in cali. (this is before loomis released their swimbait rods) Quote
Branuss04 Posted April 14, 2008 Author Posted April 14, 2008 I called up TW today and they are sending a replacment overnight along with return shipping for my broken one for me to send back. ;D I am so glad that they took care of this, this is why I shop here all the time and will continue to shop here. dgquail Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 TW is awesome and so is Loomis. I have broken 3 or 4 loomis rods and maybe paid for shipping once or twice.. can't remember... Quote

Super User RoLo Posted April 17, 2008 Super User Posted April 17, 2008 Actually, you've got to feel sorry for the distributors too. I went through a phase a few years back when nearly 50% of the rods I ordered came in damaged (4 out 9 separate deliveries)! Now I ask you, how is this possible? It was starting to look like a UPS / Fedex conspiracy against the tackle distributors :-/ Roger Quote
Branuss04 Posted April 18, 2008 Author Posted April 18, 2008 OK NOW IM ticked!!!!!!!!!!!! I got my 2nd rod back from TW today, and the same f'in thing. Bottom guide is bent (It's wierd cause it's bent the same exact way) and the epoxy is chipped and cracked. I'm not too worried about the guide because it isn't bent bad enough to really cause any problems. I'm more worried about the epoxy around the frame. Has anyone had this problem with any of the loomis rods. It's really making me mad, i've waited and waited and I still can't use the rod. I don't know what to do, I don't want to wait for another rod to ship out, but I don't want to throw a damaged rod and have to end up paying $50 for the warranty. Any help guys, it's really frustrating me, I don't expect this from a $250 rod. Sorry for the rant!! Quote

That sucks, Call TW again, tell them to PLEASE personally inspect the next rod before they ship it out. That shouldn't be happening, especially from loomis. Maybe an entire batch of their rods was damaged and they didn't realize it..? Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted April 18, 2008 Super User Posted April 18, 2008 Take a deep breath... If you buy online, as RoLo pointed out, stuff happens! You need to call TW and try again. You will eventually get the rod in perfect condition, but don't settle for anything less. Good luck. 8-) Quote
Super User Raul Posted April 18, 2008 Super User Posted April 18, 2008 OK NOW IM ticked!!!!!!!!!!!! I got my 2nd rod back from TW today, and the same f'in thing. Oh well, 1 st time could be a manufacturer problem, 2 nd time from the same retailer ...... nah, I don 't think it 's a manufacturer problem :. In the last month and a half I 've purchased two more GLoomis rods and none of them has any flaws. Quote
Fishergirl82 Posted April 18, 2008 Posted April 18, 2008 You are not alone..... I ordered a SWBR955C from them last friday, got it on Monday and the bottom guide was cracked not bent, I am sending it back as soon as I receive the return label they promised me... Quote
KB Nation Posted April 18, 2008 Posted April 18, 2008 Ive ordered an IMX 783C and an 843C in the past 2 months with no problems or any flaws to the naked eye! Sorry about your problems! I know that has to be frustrating! > Quote
