BassinWill301 Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 Well I just bought a St. Croix Legend Tournement rod and a Revo STX. I have fished it once (the first day i got it from UPS), and when I brought it inside I noticed two nicks in the caramic inserts on the first guide from the bottom and the third guide from the bottom. I took my line and rubbed it against the nicks to see if it would do anything and it really didnt do anything, but im worried that if the line caught it right then it would fray my line. Should i send the rod back to St. croix and get it replaced or should i not worry about it? What would you do? Oh yeah and i also bought the rod from Reeds. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted April 17, 2008 Super User Posted April 17, 2008 St. Croix will replace the rod, but since it is obviously defective, the retailer might swap it out for you. Either way, return the rod for another. 8-) Quote
Super User Maxximus Redneckus Posted April 17, 2008 Super User Posted April 17, 2008 This may sound weird but if im lookin for a rod at a store i carry a q tip with me to check guides before i buy it just put the q tip in each guide gently and twist it if the guide catches any fiber it has a bad one .you would be surprised the stuff a rod goes through before it hits the shelf Quote

BassinWill301, As a rod builder I would take a Q-tip and wipe the shock ring, if any fibers show up then I would no longer use the rod. If in doubt, I would return the rod and not take the chance.. I would contact Reeds first to see what there policies are, if not back to them then straight back to the mfg. St.Croix® Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!! Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted April 17, 2008 Super User Posted April 17, 2008 for what you paid those guides should be smoother than a babie's butt.return the rod. Quote
djmax22 Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 I recently has a different problem with the guide on the Premier. All I can say is that I have been dealing with St Croix directly. There support is A+ Quote
