wdy77 Posted March 13, 2008 Posted March 13, 2008 Im new to this forum so if this is an old question Im sorry!! I just want to know what fellow bass nuts think about this line. I still like mono Im old fashion (41 years old) That stuff is big $$$$ :-/ Quote
Pigsticker Posted March 13, 2008 Posted March 13, 2008 if your seriously in to tackle and maintence then it is good. I only use fluoro and braid mostly fluoro and i have found it is much better for worm techniques but you do have to retie alot because after a few fish the end of the line gets weak especially in cover and you will pop the line easy. other than that its great ;D Quote
bassin95 Posted March 13, 2008 Posted March 13, 2008 this is great. i think flouro is great when used as a leader to braid. i started using a mono leader a long time ago before i heard of flouro and have to say that i think the flouro is worth it. think about this. put braid on your reel and tie a 4' flouro leader on. go to this link and use the albright knot http://www.animatedknots.com/albright/index.php. at the end of the knot wrap the braid around the fllouro 3 times before tightening. when you use this application you will use the same spool of braid all all year and the entire flouro all year maybe two. this is what i have on all of my baitcasting reels. trust me it works miracles. ;D Quote
HOIST-N-HAWGS Posted March 13, 2008 Posted March 13, 2008 IMO it's worth it. All my casters are loaded w/P-line Halo. I switched over from Suffix Elite and Seige. IMO it's the best line I've ever used and worth the $18. I hesitate to try the Gamma @ $27 in fear I may like it to much. ;D However, I never liked Fluoro on spinning gear. Here's a link that has a variety of thoughts on fluoro. http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?action=search2 Quote
bassin95 Posted March 13, 2008 Posted March 13, 2008 all of my spinning reels are spooled with mono or braid. no flouro on the spinners. Quote
Jeff in Va Posted March 13, 2008 Posted March 13, 2008 I use alot of flouro. For a while I was not really sold on it making a huge difference but then I decided to try do a test. I would rig two spinning rods up with shaky heads, 8# test flouro on one, 8# mono on the other. I fished these for three trips in a row on a lake where I fish the shaky heads around docks a lot. I fished the docks with the mono first then would switch the flouro. The mono did catch some fish, but i lost count of how many times when I did not get bit on the mono rod and then switched to the flouro I would get a fish. That sold me so now I use it a lot. I have tried a bunch to and like Seguar Invizx the best. Quote
Crankhead Posted March 13, 2008 Posted March 13, 2008 I use Vanish Transition fluro on all of my bait & spinning reels and love it. But I'll give you some info that might help you out. I used to have problems with fluro jumping off & twisting on my spinning reels. But then I was looking for something (I forgot what) in my Stadic instructions & parts pamphlet one day. Shimano tells you to take some washers out when using only fluro line. This will spool more line towards the front of the spool. I did that and haven't had any problems using fluro since. Now I've gone into Cabelas & BassPro and talked with the guys selling the reels. They didn't believe this until they opened a Shimano box and read the pamphlet themselves. Quote
dman Posted March 13, 2008 Posted March 13, 2008 no flouro on spinning rods? why not? I never have but i was going to this year for my worm rod (spinning). Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted March 13, 2008 Super User Posted March 13, 2008 i use seguar invizx on spinning and baitcasting.it works great.i hated flouro until i found this line.it is the most mangable fluro i've used.flouro is worth it as long as you don't kink it bad on a backlash.a bad kink will damage any flouro line.other than that it should outlast mono.it is more sensitive than mono. arthurspooner13 Posted March 13, 2008 Posted March 13, 2008 I just bought my first spool of it yesterday at BPS. (XPS Fluorocarbon - the stuff KVD uses). He said that he uses Fluorocarbon for 75% of his fishing applications. The only time he doesn't is when he's fishing spinnerbaits/topwater, because he uses mono. And when he's fishing the heavy, heavy stuff he'll use braid. Quote
bassin95 Posted March 13, 2008 Posted March 13, 2008 no flouro on spinning rods? why not? I never have but i was going to this year for my worm rod (spinning). it's a price and sensitivity thing for me. braid is more sensitive and durable than flouro but braid is visual. flouro is not visual that is why is use the flouro leader. TruflShufl Posted March 13, 2008 Posted March 13, 2008 I use Yo-zuri hybrid 10# on my spincast and spinning setups. Mono on my baitcaster. No complaints yet, but I'm givin all 3 rigs a good workout this weekend. 8-) Quote
The Next KVD Posted March 14, 2008 Posted March 14, 2008 P-Line Fluorocarbon all the way!!!! Totally worth the $14 to $18 a spool! Quote
Kodiak Zach Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 If you ever wonder if it's worth it, try this test; Submerge a strand of 10-lb test Floro line in water. Right next to it, Submerge a strand of 10-lb test Mono line in water. Which one can you see? After performing that test, I haven't ever felt compelled to use Mono again. P.S. I used Vanish for 3 years but got sick of it breaking so easily. Finally switched to Trilene floro this year and it's about 2x to 3x stronger. Quote

Dodgeguy, The fact that invisx doesn't behave like fluoro is probably a RED flag! According to a line study conducted by TackleTour, Seaguar Invisx was the absolute worst performing fluorocarbon of the bunch. The abrasion-resistance of Seaguar Invisx was 35% "worse" than Trilene XL (nylon mono). As though that weren't bad enough, Seaguar Invisx was also the very worst for stretch-resistance, demonstrating 38% MORE stretch than Trilene XL (nylon mono). Roger Quote

Roger The TackleTour flouro shoot-out is one of the main reasons I went with Bass Bro's XPS Flouro over the others. Dollar-for-dollar, it's pretty hard to beat. A spool of 17# is less than $11 when it's on sale. Quote
Super User burleytog Posted March 19, 2008 Super User Posted March 19, 2008 Yes, but TT did not have the Trilene 100% flouro when they did their tests. IMLANSPO, the 100% Flouro is the best on the market. The XPS flouro is good stuff, but is more than a little prone to splitting/shearing. Regardless, one could do worse than to use either line. For the money (right now), I don't know if you can beat the XPS. Quote

Roger i don't believe those results are entirely valid.try a spool and see for yourself.i've used trilene xl and it's like a rubberband.invizx is not.also i fish cranks over some of the nasteiset rocks around and invizx holds up wonderfully.trilene xl does not.it does have more stretch than most flouro but that doesn't bother me. Rolo, It is hard to believe that someone could have be so anti seaguar invizx without trying it. The fact that it is limp and stretched like mono is why I like it. I simply don't lose fish with it when drop shotting and I have noted a drastic increase in catches and hook ups. Such tests ought to be taken with a grain of salt anyway well at least, it isn't Gospel to me. I apologize ahead of time if you have tried invizx. I fish rip rap and it holds up fine in the abrasion department and I am using 6# test. I have used fc line on spinning and baitcast reels and I just don't backlash any more. Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted March 20, 2008 Super User Posted March 20, 2008 i just reread the article.the abrasion resitance was a dry test.the xl lost %56 of it's abrasion resistance when wet.the flouros did not including the invizx.this puts it's real resistance way better than xl.it also had the absolute best knot strength out of any of them. Quote> "According to a line study conducted by TackleTour" URL> http://www.tackletour.com/reviewfluorocarbon2.html URL> http://www.tackletour.com/reviewfluorocarbontest.html As for my opinion, I dislike all fluorocarbon line no matter what name is on the box. I even stopped using fluorocarbon leaders. Searching for fluorocarbon that behaves the least like fluorocarbon, sends a pretty clear message. Roger Quote
Ky_Lake_Dude Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 Berkely Vanish is awesome for me. Some people say it is crap but I've never had problems with it Quote
Rattlinrogue Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 I use it on slow moving baits because it seems to disappear starting at about a foot or two under water(I fish on some pretty clear lakes and have observed this)IMO. Quote
Drew Janke Posted April 7, 2008 Posted April 7, 2008 Hello, that looks like great information and will serve as a guide line to work off of. I got my hands on some Toray 6lb and want to use it for drop shotting. Has anyone used this stuff and how do you like it. I have a fair amount of line to use for fun fishing but I want the best Fluro I can get for fishing my little local tournaments. Thanks Quote
