FishGuitBeer Posted April 2, 2008 Posted April 2, 2008 Fed-ex just dropped it off here at my workplace, love the feel of it! but I got questions. At the risk of sounding like a mook noob, I gave up on low profile Garcia"s back in the 80's after owning a XLT. I own several 4600's a 5600 that I love, but primarily, I use Quantums. I guess I'm spoiled by the dial fine tune braking system, cause I've removed the side plate on the REVO, and I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do with these magnets. Am I supposed to push the orange things on posts out twoards the edge of the spool? :-/ Quote
FishGuitBeer Posted April 2, 2008 Author Posted April 2, 2008 I guess I'm asking "how do you turn the magnets on and off"? :-? Quote
d.hark Posted April 2, 2008 Posted April 2, 2008 The Revos S doesnt not have magnetic brakes it has centrifial brakes. But yes you push those orange tabs out. I would start with half on and see how you do. When turning them on use a symetrical pattern like every other one on, or directly across from each other etc... Quote
Mike-in-WV Posted April 2, 2008 Posted April 2, 2008 On my Revo S I have two brakes on and they are across from each other. Then I adjust the weight of the lure with the spool tension knob only. After tying on a Frog or whatever I push down on the free spool and adjust it so that it only drops about 10" at a time if I give the rod tip a couple shakes. I do this with every lure from light to heavy and never touched the setting on the brakes. Casting with this reel is unbelievably smooth and easy. With this set up I don't even have to touch the spool when I cast unless I want to stop it at a certain spot. This is with #12 Cajun Red Cast or even #17. It doesn't make a difference. Have fun and enjoy it! Play with it and set it to your style of casting and you will love it, Mike Quote
FishGuitBeer Posted April 3, 2008 Author Posted April 3, 2008 Yeah, I took it out in the yard and gave it a couple of casts. I'll put it through the paces this weekend! So far...I like Quote
Red Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 yes you will love it, it is a great reel, i use mine with only one brake on, i can cast everything in my box a mile, and rarely have to adjust the spool tension Cliff Quote
FishGuitBeer Posted April 3, 2008 Author Posted April 3, 2008 Yeah, I only have two brakes on, but I think I can roll it back to one. Quote
Masshole Mike Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 i've got a revo s coming in by next friday. i had to have my local shop order me a lefty because they don't usually stock them. how easy is it to adjust the brakes on it, fishguitbeer? i've only used external brake controls before and haven't had to set brakes like the S's yet. Very easy. Just unscrew the bolt/screw on the left hand side (for your lefty model) and take off the sideplate. Than push the "tabs" out to set them in the "on" position. Keeping them pushed inwards on the spool keeps them in the "off" position. I actually prefer this style of braking system. Quote
FishGuitBeer Posted April 3, 2008 Author Posted April 3, 2008 One thing I have noticed, using mainly 6'6" casting rods for years, it seem's to be a bit ,,uh ... petite? Quote

There not that much bigger when just looking at them. Quote
FishGuitBeer Posted April 6, 2008 Author Posted April 6, 2008 Well, I just got back from fishing 3 local ponds from shore (cloudy ,windy, cold....caught nut'in), but I got to put the Revo through the paces. I threw several baits, different weights, this is hands down, the best low-profile baitcaster I've ever used. Glad you guys talked me into it! I'd be buying the Dick's Quantum Escalade if wasn't for your input..thanks! Quote
paragon Posted April 6, 2008 Posted April 6, 2008 I used my new revo s for the first time yesterday on a few ice-out bass. I love it. Quote
FishGuitBeer Posted April 7, 2008 Author Posted April 7, 2008 Managed to salvage the day at a little pond down the street, my oldest caught 8 largemouth and I got 4. Good start to the season. Quote
